Ive been wheeling for 15 years but this Hummer is a nightmare to kit out. My logic was a standard 12k winch but with this 9,000lb curb weight it feels sketchy. Need Moab-ready gear by next month that wont block the proximity sensors.

  • heavy duty recovery points
  • high-clearance sliders

I love my setup! Used Warn 16.5ti-S 16500lb Winch to pull a massive truck once, amazing strength.

honestly i looked into the custom stuff and prices are just insane for this truck. like, i get it is a luxury rig but man... unfortunately some of the high-end gear isnt as good as expected for the cost. i ended up looking at more budget-friendly options that still handle the massive weight. for the winch, maybe look at the Smittybilt X2O Gen3 17.5K Waterproof Winch. it is way cheaper than those boutique brands but has that 17,500lb capacity you actually need for a 9,000lb suv. for protection, i had issues with long lead times on other brands so i checked out N-Fab RKR Rails GMC Hummer EV which are simpler but solid enough for some rock protection. definitely grab some GearAmerica Uber Shackles 68,000 lbs MBS too because standard ones feel sketchy with this much mass. just trying to save some cash where possible because moab gets expensive fast...

Dealing with a 9,000lb rig is a whole different ball game than kitting out a Jeep or a Taco. I remember helping a guy out near Moab last year who tried a recovery with a standard 12k winch on a heavy truck and the motor literally started smoking before the vehicle even budged. With the Hummer, you really want that extra overhead so you arent maxing out the gear every single time. Id look closely at the Superwinch Talon 18.0 Heavy Duty Winch versus something like the Comeup Seal Gen2 16.5rs Winch. The Superwinch has these massive cooling fins which are great for long pulls, while the Comeup uses an external brake system. I prefer the external brake because it keeps heat away from the drum, which is way safer if youre running synthetic line like most of us do now. For sliders, its a tough choice. The White Knuckle Off Road GMC Hummer EV Rock Sliders are basically the gold standard for heavy duty protection because they use .188 wall tubing. Compare that to something like the N-FAB RKR Rails for GMC Hummer EV which are more of a rail system. The White Knuckle ones are definitely heavier but they can actually take the weight of the truck dropping onto a rock without bending into the body panels. Its a real risk with a vehicle this heavy and you dont want to find out your sliders are just for show when you are halfway through Hell's Revenge.
