Best off-road accessories for the GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate?

So I just got this 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate and honestly it is way nicer than I thought it would be. Like too nice. My brother in law wants me to go on this camping trip out near Moab next month and I am kind of freaking out because I have never really taken a truck off the actual paved road before. I know the Denali is supposed to be the luxury one so maybe I bought the wrong version for this? I dont know. I was looking at stuff online and people keep talking about lift kits and winches and recovery boards and honestly I am totally lost. I have like 5000 dollars saved up to make it look cool and actually work but I dont even know what I need first.

My logic was that I should maybe get those metal bars on the bottom so I dont smash the fancy paint on a rock but someone told me those are called rock sliders and some are just for looks and some actually protect the truck. I have no idea how to tell the difference. Does the Denali Ultimate even have room for those with the steps that fold out? I dont want to break the motor that moves the steps if I try to change them.

Also what about the tires? The ones on it right now look kind of smooth compared to the ones I see on the trail trucks. But if I get big knobby tires is it gonna ride like a tractor on the highway? I still have to drive it to work every day. I also saw some people talking about skid plates and I am worried if I hit a big rock I am gonna puncture something important and be stuck in the middle of Utah with no cell service. I dont want to be that guy who has to get rescued on his first trip. Sorry if these are really basic questions I just dont want to ruin my brand new truck before the first payment is even due. What are the absolute must haves for a beginner who just wants to survive a weekend in the dirt without breaking everything...

Jumping in here because I was literally in your shoes last summer! Moab is amazing but those rocks can be scary for a brand new truck. Ngl, I was so worried about popping a tire until I learned about airing down. It makes the ride way smoother and keeps you from sliding around on the slickrock. I spent a lot of time comparing the VIAIR 400P Portable Compressor Kit versus the generic cigarette lighter ones, and the Viair is a total lifesaver because it hooks straight to the battery and fills tires in minutes. Also, definitely check out the TrailRecon YouTube channel... his beginner videos are fantastic for learning how to not destroy your drivetrain! For recovery gear, I love my ARB TRED Pro Recovery Boards Grey way more than the cheap plastic ones I started with. The TREDs actually have specialized teeth that grip whereas the knock-offs just melt under the tire heat. Safety is everything out there!

Honestly you're gonna be fine, the Denali is plenty capable if you dont go crazy. I've been really happy with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 275/60R20 tires because they work well on the highway but grip great on rocks. Tbh skip the expensive lift and just get a Rough Country Front Skid Plate GMC Sierra 1500 to protect the vitals. It saves cash and works perfectly for beginners.

Just saw your post and I am so pumped for you! Moab is literally life-changing. Since you want to keep costs down but still protect that beautiful Denali, here are some essentials that wont blow your whole budget.

Those power steps are awesome for the mall but terrible for rocks. I love the Go Rhino Dominator D6 Sidesteps Sierra 1500 because they give you a solid steel barrier and actually look fantastic without costing a fortune. Theyre way tougher than the factory motors.

For rubber, definitely check out the Falken Wildpeak A/T4W 275/60R20. They are amazing on the highway but have enough bite for Moab dirt. Super quiet tho!

Instead of the pricey recovery boards, grab the Maxsa Innovations Escaper Buddy Traction Mats. They work great and save you like 200 bucks.
