Just picked up a 2024 Sierra 3500 HD and Im prepping to haul a 4-horse trailer from Texas to Montana in like two weeks. Ive been looking online and keep seeing people argue about weight distribution hitches versus just trusting the factory setup on these big duallys. Also some guys say you need those huge blind spot mirrors even with the fancy camera system that comes with the ProGrade tech. Im kinda confused because some sites say the truck handles it all but then I see guys spending thousands on extra sway bars. My budget is around $1500 for extras right now. What are the absolute must-haves I actually need to buy before we hit the road?

Agreed. Be careful with those trailer tires, I once shredded one and it was a total nightmare. You might want to consider the TireMinder i10 RV TPMS with 4 Sensors for monitoring.

Since you have a solid budget, I’d focus on protecting that trailer and making your life easier during the long haul. - Seriously, do not skip these! You dont want to sandblast your expensive horse trailer with road debris for 1,500 miles. Also, grab a Proven Industries Model 2516-G Trailer Lock because horse trailers are huge targets for theft at motels. Safe travels!

Congrats on the 3500! Im very satisfied with mine, but for that long haul, Id definitely grab a Equal-i-zer 4-point Sway Control Hitch 14000 lbs. It works well and makes everything feel way safer in the wind. Also, I really like the Fit System Snap-and-Zap Towing Mirrors for extra visibility. The cameras are nice, but I like having a backup view... no complaints here, just keeps things steady.
