What bed covers and camping gear actually fit the Santa Cruz because the factory options are driving me nuts? I spent way too much on the dealer roll-up and it leaks constantly here in Seattle. My sleeping bag got soaked last weekend and im ready to toss it. Need a solid hard cover or tent setup before my trip next month...

Building on the earlier suggestion, I'd actually be careful with those rolling covers in heavy PNW rain. Too many joints usually mean more leaks. I would suggest the Extang Solid Fold ALX Hard Folding Truck Bed Cover because it uses thick aluminum panels that wont sag or pool water.

  • Check the perimeter seals for full compression
  • Keep the rail drains clear of pine needles Its a bit heavier, but definitely safer for keeping your gear dry.

OMG you definitely need to swap that cover before your gear gets ruined for good! Safety and dry gear are everything when camping in the PNW. I swear by the BAK Revolver X4s Hard Rolling Truck Bed Cover because it is super reliable and keeps the rain out better than the cheap stuff. For the tent, the Rightline Gear 110770 Mid-Size Short Bed Truck Tent is fantastic and fits the Cruz bed perfectly. Love it!

@Reply #2 - good point! Most leak cuz of bad rail shimming basically.

  • Check drainage tube diameter.
  • Avoid covers with hidden gutters that trap debris.
  • Loose clamps ruin seals.

TL;DR: Get the Lomax Hard Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover Matte Black Finish. I've used many covers over the years; this one stays bone dry. Use Napier Sportz Truck Tent 57 Series for your setup.

Like someone mentioned, that dealer roll-up is a total waste of money. I really expected better engineering for a $1k+ accessory, but the rail seals are basically garbage in real-world PNW rain. Unfortunately, I had issues with water pooling right at the tailgate seal too because the drainage angles are just wrong. It is super frustrating when your gear gets ruined on a trip. If you are looking for specs that actually hold up, here is what I have looked into:

  • BakFlip MX4 Hard Folding Truck Bed Cover for Hyundai Santa Cruz
  • This uses heavy-duty aluminum panels and EPDM outer seals. Its way better at shedding water than the roll-up, tho the drain tubes are a bit of a technical oversight since they can clog with needles and debris easily.
  • RetraxONE MX Retractable Truck Bed Cover Matte Polycarbonate
  • This one is cool because its a single piece of material, so there are no hinges for water to seep through. The downside is the canister takes up about 10 inches of your bed space, which is a huge trade-off on a short bed like ours. As for your sleeping bag getting soaked, that bed tent life is risky in Seattle. Id honestly suggest the Luno Air Mattress for Hyundai Santa Cruz with 4-inch base instead. Sleeping inside the vehicle with a custom-fit mattress is way drier than any tent setup. If you really want a tent, maybe check the Thule Tepui Explorer Ayer 2 Roof Top Tent because the 260g polyester cotton fabric is much more robust for heavy moisture than the thin nylon on most bed tents. Just make sure you check the static weight limit on your roof rails first... dont want to crush the roof frame.
