I just picked up a gorgeous F-TYPE R-75 and I’m absolutely in love with that 5.0L supercharged V8. While 575hp is already plenty of fun, I’m curious about what the community recommends to really wake it up. I’ve been looking into a smaller upper pulley swap and a Stage 1 ECU remap, but I’m a bit worried about how it might affect the factory warranty on this special edition. Also, has anyone upgraded to 200-cell cats? I want a bit more growl without it getting too raspy for daily driving. Which specific performance brands or tuners have you guys had the best results with for this model?
Just sharing my experience: I went through this last year when I got my V8. Honestly, I’m a bit of a chicken when it comes to the factory warranty, especially on a special edition like the R-75, so I took a much more conservative and budget-friendly route compared to the guys above. I’m really happy with where the car is at now without spending $5k or risking my coverage too much. 1. **Breathing easier:** Before doing anything crazy, I just swapped in BMC High Performance Air Filters. It’s a super simple DIY and it basically helps the engine breathe better without needing a tune. I noticed a bit more supercharger whine too, which is always a win in my book, and it didnt cost much at all.
2. **The sound issue:** You mentioned the 200-cell cats, but if you're worried about rasp or cost, look into the Forza Componenti Exhaust Valve Controller. It’s way cheaper than exhaust hardware and lets you keep the valves open 100% of the time. It really brings out that V8 growl without making it annoying for daily driving. Plus, you can close them if the neighbors get grumpy.
3. **Power vs. Warranty:** I looked into the RaceChip GTS Black for Jaguar F-Type R instead of a full ECU flash. It’s a piggyback system so it doesn't technically rewrite the car's software. I mean, I still take it off before I go to the dealership just in case, but it feels way safer than a permanent remap. 4. **Watch the heat:** These 5.0L engines get SO hot. If you eventually do the pulley, you really gotta look at the Allisport Jaguar F-Type Secondary Charge Cooler Radiator. Keeping those temps down is the only way the car stays fast after more than one pull, especially in the summer. Anyway, thats just what worked for me! Good luck with the R-75, its such a beast!! 👍
So basically the consensus is VAP is the favorite, but most agree that pulleys and tunes are highkey warranty risks for your R-75. 1. Tbh, the best budget move is better tires. Grab Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 295/30ZR20 (around $450 each) to safely handle that V8 power.
2. Consider Eibach Pro-Kit Lowering Springs Jaguar F-Type (~$350) for better handling without stressing the engine or your wallet. Stay safe and enjoy that V8! ✌️
Totally agree with the above! VAP is definitely the way to go, but maybe look into a crank pulley instead of the upper one since it’s a cleaner install. Also, imo you should highkey upgrade the intercooler pump to fight heat soak... it definetly keeps the power more consistent during spirited drives!
In my experience, you gotta be careful with that R-75 warranty. For more power, compare the VelocityAP Stage 1 ECU Tune vs adding a VelocityAP Supercharger Upper Pulley. The pulley/tune combo is insane, but honestly it's basically a warranty killer. If u just want growl, go for VelocityAP 200 Cell Sport Cats. They sound mean without the rasp and dont stress the engine much. gl!
