I literally just bought this 2011 Jaguar XKR last week and I think I might have made a mistake because I dont know anything about how to actually make it faster and my neighbor who has this fancy Porsche keeps making jokes about how his car is a real track car and mine is just a "grandpa cruiser" or whatever he called it. I have this big car meet and a track day thing coming up in like ten days here in San Diego and I am freaking out because I want to actually hold my own but when I look up performance stuff online I get so confused by all the talk about ecu maps and pulleys and air intakes and honestly I dont even know what a pulley does in this context like is it for the engine or the wheels??

Sorry if this is a really dumb question but I am a total newbie at this and I just want the car to feel more aggressive and maybe sound louder too so he stops laughing at me. I have about $3,500 that I can spend right now to get some parts or accessories installed but I have no idea where to start or what brands are even good for Jaguars. Like are there specific things that every XKR owner gets right away? Someone mentioned a supercharger pulley upgrade but then they said I need a tune as well and I dont even know what that means like do they have to take the whole engine apart for that? I saw something about lowering springs too but will that make it go faster or is that just for looks?

I'm really worried about breaking something too because I heard these cars are expensive to fix if you mess up the computer or something. Can someone just tell me like a list of three or four things I should ask for at a shop that will actually make a difference by next weekend? I really need to get this moving fast because the clock is ticking and I feel like an idiot not knowing what I'm looking for and the local guys keep talking in circles around me...

I love the XKR! For safety, compare these:

Coming back to this after thinking about your 10-day timeline... look man, i totally get the rush to shut up the porsche guy but you really gotta be careful about jumping straight into huge power mods right before a track day. Tracking a heavy GT like the XKR puts insane stress on parts that never fail on the street, and honestly, the worst thing would be breaking your new car in front of everyone. Since youre worried about reliability, i would suggest focusing on things that keep the car from failing under pressure. San Diego heat is no joke. The first thing id buy is Castrol React SRF Racing Brake Fluid. Stock fluid will boil in like ten minutes and then your pedal goes to the floor. Not fun. For power consistency, you should definitely swap the intercooler pump. The stock one is weak. Grab the Bosch 0392022002 Intercooler Water Pump because it moves way more coolant and helps prevent heat soak, which is when the car gets slow because its too hot. If you have extra cash, the Eurotoys Jaguar XKR Performance Cooling Supercharger Radiator is a lifesaver for track use. Lastly, make sure the gearbox is ready. I would grab a ZF 6HP26 Transmission Oil Pan and Filter Kit. If that old fluid gets too hot, it can get messy. These cars are awesome, just gotta make sure they can handle the beating first. You got this!

Just saw this. Quick question... how many miles are on the clock? Track days are brutal if maintenance isnt perfect. To stop the Porsche guy laughing, you might want to consider:

Late to the party but honestly, before you throw money at the engine, can you tell me what tires you're running and if they're fresh? Tracking a heavy GT like the XKR in San Diego heat is gonna cook your brakes and rubber in two laps if you aren't prepared... Unfortunately, just adding power with a pulley wont stop that Porsche guy from gapping you on the corners. Like someone mentioned, you saw lowering springs online, but not all are created equal. I have had issues with generic kits in the past. If you want it to actually handle, look at H&R Sport Lowering Springs Jaguar XK/XKR. They are decent for the price and drop the car about 1.2 inches, but they can feel a bit bouncy on rougher tracks. Personally, I think the Spires Performance Jaguar XKR Lowering Springs are superior because they're specifically valved to work with the CATS adaptive damping system. They cost more and are harder to find, but the data shows much better mid-corner stability. Also, for a track day, definitely skip the ceramic pads like Akebono Euro Ultra-Premium Ceramic Brake Pads even though they're popular for street use. They'll fade instantly under track pressure. You need something like EBC Brakes Yellowstuff High Performance Brake Pads. They're dusty and noisy, which is disappointing for a luxury car, but they actually bite when the rotors get hot. If you dont fix the handling and braking first, you're basically just driving a faster boat into a wall.
