Looking for a reliable dash cam for my Kia Sorento.

Hey everyone! I recently picked up a Kia Sorento and I’m absolutely loving the ride so far, but with all the crazy traffic lately, I’ve decided it’s time to finally invest in a reliable dash cam. I want that extra peace of mind in case anything happens on the road.

I’m specifically looking for something that won't interfere with the Sorento's safety tech sensors near the rearview mirror, as I know that area is a bit crowded. Ideally, I’d love a dual-channel setup (front and rear) that handles night driving well, since the factory tint on the rear window is quite dark. I’m also curious if anyone has experience hardwiring a cam into the Sorento’s fuse box for parking mode, or if using a MirrorTap is a better way to go for a cleaner look.

My budget is around $200–$350, and I’m hoping for something discreet that doesn't scream 'expensive tech' to passersby. Does anyone have a specific model they’ve installed in their Sorento that fits well and offers great video quality? Would love to hear about your setup and how the installation went!

Similar situation here - I went through this last year. Honestly, just get a BlackVue. I was super cautious about the ADAS housing interference, but their cylindrical form factor fits perfectly behind the mirror.

Yo! Honestly, I get the struggle with the Sorento's sensor housing—it's super bulky. I've been running the VIOFO A229 Plus 2-CH Dash Cam with Sony STARVIS 2 Sensors in my 2023 Sorento and I'm reallyyy satisfied with it. It's lowkey enough that you barely notice it from outside, and the front unit tucks right next to the sensor box without blocking anything.

For your budget, it's a toss-up between hardwiring and a MirrorTap. Option A is the hardwire kit: I used the VIOFO HK4 Hardwire Kit for A229 Plus to the fuse box. It's better for parking mode cuz you can set voltage cut-offs so your battery doesn't die. Option B is MirrorTap MT-2015 15-inch Power Cord, which is way easier to install but you lose that 24/7 parking protection.

I'd definitely go with the Viofo over something like the Thinkware Q1000 2K Dual-Channel Dash Cam because the STARVIS 2 tech handles that dark factory tint sooo much better at night. Installation was basically a breeze—just tuck the wires into the headliner and you're good to go! gl! 👍

@Reply #5 - good point! Honestly tho, while those high-end brands are great, you really dont need to blow your whole $350 budget to get a setup that works. I was in the same boat and decided to go a bit cheaper to see if it would hold up. I ended up installing the REDTIGER F7N 4K Dual Dash Cam in my Sorento and im super satisfied with how it turned out. I did the DIY hardwire thing myself using the REDTIGER Dash Cam Hardwire Kit because i wanted that 24h parking monitor without messing with the mirror power. Tucking the wires into the trim was actually kinda fun and it looks totally factory. The 4K quality is crisp and it handles the dark rear window tint way better than i expected. Plus, it hides perfectly behind that big sensor box on the windshield so i dont even notice it while driving. Saved me enough money to grab some better floor mats too... definitely worth looking into if you want quality without the brand name tax.
