just picked up my RRS PHEV and im so stoked to customize it! stuck between these two options for my $2000 budget before a big road trip next month:

  • deployable side steps
  • fixed steps plus mudflaps

seattle weather is messy so i need something practical. which setup looks and works better?

I'd be really careful with those deployable steps if you're dealing with Seattle weather. I remember a buddy who took his RRS up to Snoqualmie and the slush basically froze the motor mechanism solid halfway through the weekend... he had to drive home with one side stuck down which is a total nightmare for ground clearance. For a PHEV, you might want to consider the weight and complexity too. Those motors add another failure point you just dont really need. I would suggest going with the Land Rover Genuine Fixed Side Steps VPLWP0434 instead. They are super rugged and honestly give the car a wider, more planted look. Combine those with Land Rover Genuine Mudflaps Front and Rear VPLWP0431 to keep that PNW road grime off your paint. The PHEV tires tend to throw a lot of spray, and without flaps, your rear quarters will be trashed after one season of rain. You should be able to get both installed for under $1600 at a decent independent shop. If you have leftover cash, maybe grab a bottle of Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra Ceramic Coating 50ml to help the water bead off during those long drizzle months. It kinda makes washing the car a breeze tho. TL;DR: Skip the motorized steps. Fixed steps plus flaps are more reliable in the wet, protect the chassis better, and leave you enough budget for a ceramic coat.
