I’m beyond excited about my new Lexus GX 550, but I’m itching to get it off the pavement and into the dirt. The stock setup is impressive, but I definitely want to beef it up for some light rock crawling and weekend overlanding. I’m currently looking for high-quality rock sliders that won't interfere with the sensors and am also considering a low-profile roof rack for recovery gear. Since this is such a new model, I’m struggling to find which brands have the best fitment and won't void any warranties. What are the absolute must-have off-road upgrades you’d recommend for a solid trail-ready setup that still handles well on the highway?

TL;DR from this thread: Sliders are key. - Westcott (suggested)
- Victory 4x4 Lexus GX 550 Blitz Sliders (~$849)
They use high-strength steel and honestly offer great value for overlanding, i think!

Seconding the recommendation above!! Sliders are basically mandatory if youre even thinking about rocks. Ngl, Ive been geeking out over the technical specs for the 550 and found two solid options that wont mess with your sensors or warranty. * Westcott Designs Lexus GX 550 Rock Sliders: These are absolute tanks. They use .120 wall DOM tubing and are tig welded. The kick-out is amazing for pivoting, though they're definitely on the heavier side.
* CBI Offroad Lexus GX 550 Rock Sliders: Really sleek, high-clearance design. They tuck in tight to the body which is great for highway aerodynamics, but lead times can be a bit long iirc. Also, for the rack, check out the Prinsu Pro Roof Rack for Lexus GX 550. The new Pro version has way more crossbar rigidity for heavy recovery gear and it looks sick. gl with the build!!

sooo quick reply while i'm on lunch! In my experience, the biggest mistake is going cheap on protection. I actually saw a buddy scrape his brand new rockers on a trail recently... literally painful to watch. If you want safety first, definitely go with frame-mounted gear so it actually protects the trucks structure and doesnt mess with your sensors. For your situation, here's what i recommend: 1. CBI Offroad Lexus GX 550 Rock Sliders
- Pros: These are absolute tanks. They mount directly to the frame which is way safer for rock crawling than body-mounted ones.
- Cons: They're heavy, so you might feel it a bit in your MPGs, but your car is safe. 2. Sherpa Equipment Co. The Storm Roof Rack
- Pros: Super low profile and realy quiet on the highway. Plus, it uses high-grade hardware so it wont rattle loose.
- Cons: Higher upfront cost but worth it for the build quality tbh. Basically, you wanna stick with brands that know there stuff and use bolt-on designs to keep that warranty safe. Good luck with the build, the new 550 is a beast!! peace
