Hey everyone! I recently leveled up to a Lincoln Navigator L, and I’m absolutely loving the extra wheelbase and power. We’re gearing up for a cross-country summer trip where we’ll be towing our 24-foot travel trailer (about 6,500 lbs fully loaded), and I want to make sure I have the right setup. While the Navigator is a powerhouse, I’m a bit nervous about making sure everything is as stable as possible on the highway.

I’m looking for recommendations on the most reliable weight distribution hitches that play nice with the Navigator’s adaptive air suspension. Also, with the extra length of the 'L' model, the cargo area is huge, but it tends to become a 'junk drawer' on long hauls. Does anyone have a favorite cargo organizer or heavy-duty floor mat system that fits the extended trunk perfectly? I've also been debating a low-profile rooftop carrier for the bulkier gear, but I’m worried about the total height clearance and wind noise.

I’ve looked at some of the Ford/Lincoln OEM options, but I’m wondering if there are aftermarket brands that offer better durability or specific features for the L trim. What are the absolute 'must-have' accessories you've found for towing and maximizing the storage in your Navigator L?

yo, congrats on the Navigator L! it's a total powerhouse for towing. Honestly, you dont need to drop $1k on a fancy hitch. I’ve been using the Eaz-Lift Elite Weight Distribution Hitch Kit 1,000 lbs and it works great with the air suspension for around $380. Just make sure you follow the manual's sequence for the leveling system so they dont fight each other... basically a must-do or it feels wonky. For the cargo mess, skip the pricey Lincoln mats. I went with Husky Liners WeatherBeater Floor Mats for Lincoln Navigator L cuz they're way cheaper than WeatherTech but literally indestructible. To keep things organized, I use a Drive Auto Products Car Cargo Organizer which was like $30 on sale. It keeps my gear from sliding around that massive trunk perfectly. Rooftop carriers are cool but the wind noise is real and they definitely tank your MPG, so maybe pack the trailer more if you can? gl with the trip!! 👍

Sooo saw this earlier but just getting around to it. Honestly, for the Navigator L, you gotta be careful with that adaptive air suspension. It’s great for comfort, but it can highkey mask a poor setup until you hit a crosswind. I'd definitely go for something robust to stay safe on those long hauls. Basically, I’d look at these two: * Equal-i-zer 4-Point Sway Control Hitch 10,000 lbs: This is the gold standard for stability. The integrated sway control is purely mechanical, so it’s super reliable—though it’s kinda loud and crunchy when turning.
* Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Hitch BXW1000: Much quieter because it uses rotating latches and chains. It’s cleaner to handle, though some feel it’s slightly less 'planted' in heavy gusts compared to the Equal-i-zer. For the trunk, the WeatherTech Cargo Liner for Lincoln Navigator L is basically a requirement to stop the 'junk drawer' effect and protect the carpet. Just make sure you disable the auto-leveling before you tension the bars or the computer will fight you... safety first! lol. gl!

Honestly, when you are towing 6,500 lbs, safety should be your only priority. The Navigators air suspension is fantastic for leveling the load, but it doesnt actually stop the trailer from swaying in a crosswind or when a semi passes you. I would highly recommend the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Hitch 1000lb Tongue Weight. It uses spring bars that are much quieter than traditional friction hitches and it wont interfere with the electronic stability controls as much. Its basically a set-it-and-forget-it system once you get the tension right. For the cargo area, those generic soft-sided organizers usually just slide around. I have had the best luck with the WeatherTech Cargo Liner paired with their WeatherTech CargoTech Cargo Containment System. The blocks have a grippy underside that sticks to the mat and keeps your gear from shifting during braking or turns. If you are worried about wind noise on the roof, the Thule Motion XT L Rooftop Cargo Carrier is probably the most aerodynamic one out there. Just double check your garage clearance before you pull in... ask me how I know lol. Safety first, especially on those long hauls.

Yeah, vmkwpgljnz is spot on about the air suspension. It makes everything feel so smooth that you forget youve got a literal house behind you until a crosswind hits. Reminds me of when I spent a whole month DIYing a custom storage deck for the back of my old L before a trip to the Smokies. I got so caught up in the woodwork and making sure the slide-outs were perfect that I completely ignored the actual packing. Ended up bringing way too much gear and we spent the first night at a rest stop trying to reorganize the entire truck in the rain. My kid dropped a whole bottle of juice on the new wood and I spent an hour scrubbing it with a toothbrush while my wife just watched. It was a mess. Anyway lol, sorry I kinda went off topic there.
