Hey everyone! I finally joined the club and picked up a clean MX-5, but now I’m looking to make it my own. There are so many aftermarket options out there that it’s honestly a bit overwhelming! I really want to sharpen the handling first—maybe some better coilovers or a thicker sway bar—and I’m also looking for subtle styling mods like a front lip or a ducktail spoiler to give it a more aggressive look without going overboard. I’m trying to balance daily drivability with some spirited weekend cruises. What are the absolute 'must-have' mods you guys would recommend for a new owner looking for the best bang-for-buck upgrades?

I would suggest grabbing Eibach Pro-Kit Lowering Springs for $300 and a Bayson R Front Lip for $100... they felt way safer and more stable than my wierd old setup!!

For your situation, I honestly think you don't need to drop thousands to make the car feel way better. I had a rough experience with some super cheap eBay coils that were honestly a disaster... way too bouncy and basically ruined the ride quality. If you want that perfect balance, I'd suggest the Flyin' Miata Koni Stage 1 Suspension Kit. It uses Koni Sport Yellow Shocks paired with their own springs, and it's basically the gold standard for daily drivers who still want to hit the twisties on weekends. For styling, don't overthink it! A Bayson R GV-Style Front Lip is super affordable and gives the front end that aggressive bite you're looking for without being too flashy. Combine that with a Carbon Miata Ducktail Spoiler and you're golden. Ngl, the best bang-for-buck mod is actually just a really good performance alignment and some better rubber like the Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 tires if your budget allows. It'll feel like a totally different car, seriously! gl with the build!

> I really want to sharpen the handling first—maybe some better coilovers or a thicker sway bar yo, congrats on the buy!! honestly, the MX-5 is basically a lego set for adults and i love it. i've spent way too much time obsessing over suspension geometry and damping curves, so i'd love to help u dial this in. but before i give u a full technical breakdown, i gotta ask: which generation did u pick up (NA, NB, NC, or ND)? and also, what's ur ballpark budget for this first stage? handling mods can get pretty deep once u start looking at roll center adjusters and specific spring rates, so knowing ur exact platform is key to getting the right balance... anyway, super stoked for u!! gl!

Saw this earlier... tbh i went through this last year and my first setup was a DISASTER. - Progress Technology Anti-Sway Bar Kit helped roll.
- Unfortunately, V-Maxx Classic Coilovers felt way too stiff.
