I recently picked up a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and I’m looking to add a solid roof rack system for my weekend camping trips. My model has the flush side rails, but I’m a bit worried about how different mounts might interfere with the panoramic sunroof. I’ve been eyeing the Thule WingBar Evo for its aerodynamic profile, but they’re a bit pricey. Does anyone have experience with those, or perhaps a more budget-friendly alternative that doesn't create too much wind noise at highway speeds? I’m mainly planning to haul a cargo box and occasionally a couple of bikes. Which specific roof rack setups are you guys using on your Eclipse Cross that offer a secure fit?
For your situation, i'd suggest BrightLines Crossbars Roof Racks for Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. they're way cheaper and tbh the pano roof clearance seems safe... i havent heard any crazy whistling tho!
Yo! Congrats on the new Eclipse Cross! Honestly, I feel u on the pano roof worry... it's literally a nightmare if u get the wrong mounts. I spent weeks researching this for my own rig cuz I seriously didnt want to crack that expensive glass.
For your setup, here's what I recommend based on my own experience:
• The Thule WingBar Evo 118 Black paired with the Thule Evo Flush Rail Foot Pack 710600. This is exactly what I run. The T-track design makes mounting bike carriers like the Thule ProRide XT Upright Bike Rack super easy. Most importantly, the height is just right so the panoramic sunroof clears it when you tilt or slide it open. It's pricey, but the quality is amazing!
• If Thule is too expensive, definitely look at the Rhino-Rack Vortex ROC25 Flush Roof Rack. It's a fantastic middle-ground option. It has a really low profile and highkey looks OEM. The wind noise is basically non-existent thanks to their VGS strips that disrupt airflow.
• For the cargo box, I've been using the Thule Motion XT Large Cargo Box on mine and it's been rock solid at highway speeds.
I mean, basically stay away from those cheap universal bars u find on Amazon... they whistle like crazy and the mounting hardware is usually trash. Anyway, I've had zero issues with my setup even when loaded with gear. Just make sure u double-check the torque on the feet after your first 50 miles! Good luck! 👍
Seconding the recommendation above! My current setup stays SECURE at highway speeds. Ngl, safety is everything for that pano glass. TL;DR: prioritize a solid fit for peace of mind.
Been using this for years, no complaints
Saw this earlier! I chose:
- Yakima JetStream Crossbars with Yakima RidgeLine Towers
Technically, this setup offers better pano clearance and stability than budget options. Super happy and safe!
