So I finally did it and traded in my old gas guzzler for a 2024 Mirage G4 and honestly I love this little thing way more than I thought I would. Ive been driving big trucks and heavy SUVs for like fifteen years so jumping into a 78 horsepower 3-cylinder subcompact is a bit of a trip lol. The fuel economy is insane though and thats why I got it for my new 40-mile commute down here in Phoenix. But man it is basic inside. Like really basic. I’m used to doing my own work and adding stuff to my vehicles but this tiny platform is a first for me and I noticed the interior plastics seem a bit prone to scratching and the heat is already killing me with those big windows.
I got about 600 bucks set aside right now to get this thing road ready for the long haul. I already ordered some decent all-weather floor mats because the ones from the dealer are basically thin paper but I'm looking for the must-haves that actually fit this specific frame well. I was looking at dash cams because people drive like maniacs here but I’m worried about the battery draw on such a small engine and alternator setup especially when idling in traffic. Also does anyone have a recommendation for a center console armrest that doesnt feel like a cheap plastic toy? The G4 is missing some basic comfort stuff I really took for granted in my old Chevy.
Im also thinking about window visors because the AC takes a minute to kick in when it’s 110 out and I want to be able to crack the windows without it looking trashy or letting dust in. Is there anything else I’m missing that makes daily driving these things more tolerable? Especially things to help with road noise because the CVT drone is real when you're merging on the highway and it sounds like a vacuum cleaner sometimes. I’ve been looking at a few things:
I saw some guys talking about hood insulators but I wanna know what actually makes a difference in your daily drive before I spend my whole budget on stuff that doesnt actually help...
> but I’m worried about the battery draw I'm satisfied with my Viofo A119 V3 1440P Dash Cam. The capacitor design handles heat well and the low 5V draw keeps my battery happy.
In my experience, the Boomerang Armrest Mitsubishi Mirage 2014-2024 is the most reliable budget upgrade. It offers better stability than generic models. A Husky Liners Weatherbeater Trunk Liner also helps protect your floor.
Gonna try this over the weekend. Will report back if it works!
Wait really?? Thats actually super helpful. I always thought it was the other way around.
