so i just picked up a 2023 mirage g4 last week and honestly im already stressing out about the interior. i live out in oregon where it basically rains every single day and the mud is already getting everywhere on the stock carpet mats which are basically just thin pieces of felt at this point.

i spent a good few hours looking online and everyone says weathertech is the gold standard but then i saw some forum posts saying the fitment for the g4 specifically is kinda weird and they leave gaps near the door sill? then i looked at the husky liners but i cant tell if they even make them for the 2023 model or if its just for the older hatchbacks. i really dont want to spend like 200 bucks only for them to not fit right or slide around while im driving since this is my daily commuter and i do like 40 miles a day.

plus i have a dog who rides in the back so i need something that covers everything. its super frustrating trying to find something that actually matches the floor pan of the sedan version.

  • are weathertechs actually worth the premium price for this car?
  • does anyone know a brand that has better coverage for the back seat area?
  • do the generic ones from autozone even work or is that a waste of money?

i just want to keep the car nice since its my first brand new vehicle but im already seeing salt stains. what are you guys using for the g4?

Look, ive tried the expensive route and it just leaves my wallet empty. Over the years, ive realized that custom-cut sets are a total rip-off for a commuter like the G4. I grabbed Motor Trend FlexTough Plus Deep Dish All-Weather Floor Mats and just trimmed them myself.

  • Cost me way less than 50 bucks
  • Perfect fit with just scissors
  • Deep grooves catch everything They handle mud just fine without the huge price tag.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I've found that you don't need to drop 200 bucks to get decent coverage, but those cheapo trim-to-fit mats can be a real pain if you don't get the edges exactly right. I went through a few sets before finding a middle ground that actually works for my daily drive.

  • SMARTLINER All Weather Custom Fit Floor Mats for 2017-2024 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 are basically the sweet spot for me. I'm super happy with how they fit the footwell. Unlike some big name brands, these actually cover the center hump in the back, which is a total lifesaver if you've got a dog back there.
  • 3D MAXpider KAGU Series Floor Mat for Mitsubishi Mirage G4 are also great if you want a cleaner look. They have this grippy bottom that keeps them from sliding around, which was my biggest gripe with generic rubber ones. Tbh, those generic Autozone mats are a trap. They're usually way too small and the mud just spills over the sides anyway. If you're dealing with Oregon rain and salt, you need that high lip that custom liners provide. I've been using the Smartliners for over a year now and the carpets underneath still look brand new. No complaints at all. They're way easier to spray down than those thin felt mats the car comes with.

Caught this a bit late, but I've been down this road with multiple Mirages over the years. To be honest, I've been pretty let down by the options most people swear by. The main issue with the G4 is the floor pan shape; it is narrow and the retention clips are positioned in a way that doesn't always play nice with thick plastic liners. I have had some specific issues that made me pivot away from the standard choices:

  • Material fatigue: Many TPE liners tend to curl at the edges after a summer of heat, which creates a massive trip hazard when you are getting in.
  • Pedal interference: If a mat does not lock down perfectly, it can ride up under the brake. That is a genuine safety concern during a 40-mile daily commute.
  • Rear coverage: A lot of brands completely ignore the center hump in the G4, which is useless if you have got a dog dragging mud across the whole back row. I eventually tried out the Smartliner Custom Fit Floor Mats 2 Row Set for 2017-2023 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 and they have been solid. They aren't as flashy as others, but the fitment against the door sills is much tighter. If you want something that feels more premium and stays put, 3D MAXpider Kagu Series Floor Liners All-Weather are the way to go because the backing material basically Velcros itself to your carpet. Safety and reliability should be your priority over just looking rugged... you really don't want a mat shifting while you are driving in the rain.

I totally feel your pain with the Oregon rain and how it wrecks a new car. I was actually pretty disappointed with the fitment of those big name liners too... unfortunately they just didnt live up to the hype for me. I had issues with them sliding slightly forward which is a huge safety concern for me while driving. I definitely agree with you that the gaps near the door sill are a real problem because the mud just finds its way underneath anyway. One extra thing to watch out for is that the generic mats usually dont have the right holes for the floor anchors, which is just asking for trouble. Its such a bummer when youre trying to be careful with your first new vehicle and things arent working out... hopefully we can find a better solution.
