So I finally got my TRX and man I'm so stoked to hit the dunes out here near Vegas. The stock setup is insane but I really want to push it further before my big group trip next month. I've got about five grand saved up and I'm torn between two ways to go. Option one is grabbing some Method 101 beadlocks with 37-inch Nitto Ridge Grapplers since the extra clearance would be huge but then I'm also looking at the RPG Stage 2 kit to really dial in the rear end and stop the hopping. I cant decide if the tires or the suspension tweaks will give me more bang for my buck in the sand. Which one do you guys think I should pull the trigger on first?
Congrats on the TRX man, its a total beast. Jumping straight to 37s can get pricey fast once you factor in the trimming and extra strain on the front end. Ive seen guys regret the weight in the dunes. For sand, I would suggest leaning towards the suspension first to keep the tires on the ground.
Dude congrats on the TRX!! You are gonna have a total blast in the Vegas dunes, it is such an amazing playground for that truck and honestly nothing else even comes close to how it feels on the sand. If you want to keep some of that 5k in your pocket for actual trips and gas, I would personally skip the 37s for now. The trimming and extra weight really suck the life out of the stock gearing, and you can get way more performance by being smart with the suspension and air pressure. To kill that rear end hop without blowing the whole budget on a Stage 2, I love the SDHQ Offroad Ram TRX Rear Billet Traction Bars. They are fantastic for keeping the axle planted when you're pinned in the soft stuff and they cost way less than a full leaf pack swap. Pair those with a Foutz Motorsports Ram TRX Rear Leveling Kit to get the stance dialed in for cheap. For tires, check out the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W 35x12.50R18. They are legendary in the dunes because the sidewalls flex so well, and they're usually a lot more budget-friendly than the Nittos. Also, get yourself a ARB Twin On-Board Air Compressor 12V CKMTA12. Dropping your pressure to 15-18 psi is gonna give you more traction than any 37-inch tire ever could at street pressure. It makes a massive difference in the dunes man!
