I just pulled the trigger on a new Ram 1500 TRX and I am loving it. I am planning a big trip out to the desert next month and want to make sure I am properly geared up before hitting the dunes.

I am looking for recommendations on:

  • A sturdy bed-mounted spare tire carrier
  • High-quality rock sliders that won't kill my ground clearance
  • Some reliable LED pod lights for those late night trail runs

Since this is a heavy truck, I want to make sure I get parts that can actually handle the abuse. What are the absolute must-have off-road accessories you guys recommend for the TRX?

Congrats on the TRX! Its a beast of a truck but yeah, it definitely needs some protection before you go full speed in the desert. For the tire carrier, I honestly think the Mopar Bed-Mounted Spare Tire Carrier RAM TRX is the way to go because it fits perfectly and is super sturdy for the price. For sliders, definitely check out White Knuckle Off Road Rock Sliders RAM 1500 TRX. They use heavy-duty DOM tubing which you need for a truck this heavy, and they dont hang too low or kill your clearance. For lights, I went with Baja Designs Squadron Sport LED Pod Light Pair. They are super bright but dont break the bank like the Pro version. They are basically bomb-proof and the light output is crazy for the size. Just make sure you get a good mounting bracket for the ditch lights. Have fun in the dunes, man!

Just catching up on the advice here... basically, you are looking at the ADD and SVC stuff if you want the premium route, but honestly, you can get just as much utility without spending quite that much. One quick tip that people often forget is payload management. The TRX is a heavy girl, and adding a bunch of steel plates and a massive tire carrier can really affect your suspension travel and handling when you are airing it out in the desert. I always try to stick with things that are high-strength but low-profile to keep the weight centered. For the carrier, N-Fab Bed Mounted Rapid Tire Mount Universal is a great way to keep that spare secure without a crazy price tag. It is simple, functional, and gets the job done without taking up the whole bed. For the sliders, SDHQ Built Rock Sliders Ram 1500 TRX are really the way to go for clearance. They tuck up way better than most steps and they can actually take a serious hit if you bottom out on a ledge. Lighting-wise, KC HiLiTES C-Series C3 LED Pod Lights Spot Beam are super reliable and wont break the bank like some of the race-grade stuff. Honestly, unless you are doing high-speed night runs, these are plenty bright. Just make sure you wire them correctly to the factory aux switches. Have fun out there, the desert is where this truck really shines!

Check out the Addictive Desert Designs Stealth Fighter Tire Carrier and SVC Offroad TRX Rock Sliders. They are super beefy and built to handle the weight of this truck safely.

> Re: "Just catching up on the advice here... basically,..." I went through this exact scenario during a desert run last year. Being worried about the extra mass affecting the center of gravity was my main concern, but the setup I ended up with worked well because it prioritized structural rigidity over just looking cool. Honestly, I am satisfied with the results after hitting some pretty gnarly whoops at speed. I used to have a setup that rattled every time the frame flexed, but the one I got now has been solid for months. No complaints so far. What I learned the hard way is that with a truck this heavy, you really gotta look at how the accessories distribute the load. The sliders I picked use a specific sleeve-over-frame design that actually stiffened things up a bit. My bed mount also uses a triangulation brace that keeps the spare from bouncing around and fatiguing the bed floor. It definitely pays to look at the engineering behind the mounts... dont just buy the heaviest hunk of steel you find. Youre gonna want parts that move with the chassis, not against it.
