What camping gear is actually worth it for the Rivian R2? Ive looked at those fancy rooftop tents and the slide-out kitchens but the prices are insane. I saw some folks saying R1 accessories might work but the R2 is smaller.

Trying to pack for my Joshua Tree trip:

  • compact stove
  • bed leveling
  • power hub...

Jumping in here because the R2 dimensions are basically a puzzle game! I love looking at the specs for these.

  • Eureka Ignite Plus 2-Burner Camp Stove vs Snow Peak Home and Camp Stove GS-600BK. The Eureka offers 10,000 BTU output and fantastic simmer control. However, the Snow Peak is an engineering marvel that folds into a tiny tube! It saves so much room in the R2 cargo area tho you lose some wind protection.
  • EcoFlow Delta 2 Portable Power Station 1024Wh LFP. This is a total game changer. The LFP chemistry lasts 3000 cycles to 80 percent capacity and the 1800W AC output handles high-draw gear easily. Its compact enough to tuck into corners where a bigger Yeti wont fit. I love how fast it charges from the R2s 12V outlet!

  • Make sure to check clearances for Jetboil Genesis Basecamp System as the trunk is shallow...
  • I would suggest Lynx Levelers 10-Pack since you dont want suspension issues.

Late to the party but I gotta vent... the pricing for these adventure kits is a total joke lately. Companies are basically charging a tech tax just because we drive an EV. 5k for a slide-out kitchen? Honestly its ridiculous and such a scam. Before I dig into my gear bin for suggestions:

  • How many people are you actually packing for?
  • Are you planning to sleep inside the cabin or using a ground tent?

> I saw some folks saying R1 accessories might work but the R2 is smaller. I totally get the worry about fitment! Im so excited for you! When I first started camping with my EV, I was honestly terrified of the battery draining overnight or something failing while I was way out in the woods. Safety is my number one priority! I ended up just sticking with a solid portable battery from Jackery Portable Power Station just in case the car had issues. It gave me such peace of mind! For the R2, I would honestly just look at anything from Thule Racks or Yakima Cargo Systems. They are so reliable and have been around forever, so you know the quality is there. Just make sure everything is strapped down tight! I had a cheap rack rattle loose once and it was the scariest drive of my life. Better to be safe than sorry! Stick to the big brands and youll be set!
