So I finally got my 2021 WRX a few months back and honestly im just so frustrated with how it drives stock. Like the rev hang is actually killing me and it feels so sluggish in second gear when I'm trying to merge. My logic was that a newer car would feel way more snappy but right now my brothers old GTI feels faster which is just embarrassing lol. I was looking at the Cobb Accessport because everyone says thats the first step but then I started reading all these horror stories about spun rod bearings and the dealership voiding the warranty and now im just stuck in a rabbit hole.
I live in Denver so the altitude definitely isnt helping the turbo lag either. I have about $2,000 saved up and I want to get things moving before the summer hits but I dont know if I should go for an intake and a tune or maybe just start with some suspension stuff like coilovers because the body roll is also kinda annoying. My head is spinning from all the different forums saying different things. Should I risk the tune or are there other mods that actually make a difference without blowing up the engine? I just want the car to feel like it should have felt from the factory...
In my experience, the factory ECU logic on the VA chassis is why it feels so sluggish. Since youre in Denver, the altitude makes that stock mapping even worse. I recommend starting with these to fix the rev hang and gate feel:
Re: "In my experience, the factory ECU logic on..." I agree, but unfortunately the factory suspension setup is not as good as expected. Ive had issues with the stock sway bars being way too soft, which makes the car feel boaty in corners. You should look into a Whiteline 24mm Adjustable Front and Rear Sway Bar Kit and a IAG Performance V3 Street Series Air Oil Separator to keep the engine healthy long-term. TL;DR: Upgrade the sway bars and AOS first.
