I recently bought a Tesla Model S, and I’m concerned about keeping the battery in good condition for the long term. What are the best practices for maintaining battery health? Should I avoid charging to 100% every time? How does temperature affect the battery? Any tips from experienced Tesla owners would be appreciated!

Congrats on the Model S! Before I can give you the full rundown, what's your typical daily mileage like? Also, is it the Long Range or the Plaid? It really matters for how you should manage the cycles tbh. I’m always a bit paranoid about the long-term reliability of the cells, so I’ve been comparing which charging setup is actually the safest for the hardware. Here’s what I’ve found so far: * Tesla Wall Connector * Pros: Probably the best for overall reliability. It’s slow enough that it doesn’t cook the battery but fast enough for daily use. * Cons: Upfront cost for the unit and installation.
* Tesla Supercharger * Pros: Obviously great for road trips when you need speed. * Cons: Honestly, I’m wary of using these too often because the heat generation is pretty intense. Idk if I'd trust it as a daily solution if you want the pack to last 10+ years.
* Tesla Mobile Connector * Pros: Extremely gentle on the battery chemistry since the current is so low. * Cons: It’s soooo slow that it might not even cover your daily driving if you have a long commute. Let me know those details about your driving habits and I can share more!

For Tesla battery health, it’s best to keep the charge between 20% and 80% for daily use. Charging to 100% is fine for long trips, but avoid doing it regularly. Temperature is also crucial—extreme heat or cold can degrade the battery faster. If possible, park in a garage or shaded area during hot weather. Tesla’s software manages most of this, but these habits help maximize longevity.

To maintain your Tesla Model S battery, avoid charging to 100% regularly—aim for 80-90%. Minimize exposure to extreme temperatures and use Tesla's scheduled charging feature to optimize battery health.
