I just brought home my new ID.4 and need to upgrade my garage setup. I'm torn between a hardwired JuiceBox or the ChargePoint Home Flex. Also, what are you all using for cable management to keep things tidy? Looking for reliable recommendations that play nice with the VW software. Which specific accessories are absolute must-haves for daily charging?
Ok so honestly, if ur trying to save some serious cash, I'd skip those big brands. I went with the Emporia Level 2 EV Charger 48 Ampβit's usually under $400 and works perfectly with the ID.4. For cable management, don't buy those pricey reels lol. Just grab a Gladiator GarageWorks Deep Hook for like $12 to keep it tidy. Definitely the best bang for ur buck tbh! 👍
Seconding the recommendation above to be careful with chargers! I was sooo nervous about garage wiring for my ID.4, but then I found the Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger 40 Amp. Itβs amazing because it has a heavy-duty metal enclosure! Honestly, itβs basically fireproof, which I love. This prevents heat buildup while charging. Plus, I learned that using a high-end Hubbell HBL9450A NEMA 14-50 Receptacle is a total must-have to prevent melting. Safety first!!
Curious about one thing: are you definitely set on 48A charging, or are you just gonna stick with a NEMA 14-50 plug? Knowing your panel capacity and if you want that extra 11.5 kW speed really changes my recommendation.
Honestly, I've had some realy bad experiences with the JuiceBox 40 Smart EV Charging Station lately. Ever since they migrated to the new Enel X app, the software has been a total mess. It used to be the gold standard, but unfortunately, it's now super buggy and barely syncs with the car. For an ID.4, you want something reliable because the car's own software is already... well, you know, kinda finicky.
If I were you, I'd go with the ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 EV Charger. It's built way better and the app is actually stable. Another great technical choice is the Wallbox Pulsar Plus 48 Amp because it's compact and has local control features if you're into smart home stuff. Since the ID.4 has an 11kW onboard charger, either of these hardwired will max you out.
For keeping it tidy, dont bother with those cheap plastic hooks. I use the Lectron EV Charger Nozzle Holster and Cable Organizer. It's basically a must-have to keep the cord off the ground so you dont run over it. Plus, grab a ToughBuilt Heavy-Duty Cable Sling if you've got a long run. Tbh, cable management is HIGHKEY the most important part of the garage setup. gl!
