I saw this 2010 Audi R8 for sale near me in Jersey and its only 58k which is right in my budget because I really need a cool car for my brothers wedding next month. But it has like 95,000 miles on it and my friend said that is way too much for a car like that and itll probably explode or something. Im totally new to this I usually just drive a civic so I dont know what I should be looking for or if its just a total money pit. Is it okay to buy one with that many miles or am I gonna regret this immediately? Sorry if this is a stupid question I just dont want to lose all my savings...
unfortunately its a terrible idea. buying a car like this with your life savings is a recipe for disaster. the ac compressor failure is a known nightmare... it costs thousands in labor because the engine has to come out. plus the frame cracks on early models are a massive safety risk. if you just want to look cool for your brothers wedding get something like a Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06 7.0L V8 instead. parts are way cheaper and any shop can work on it. or maybe an Audi TTS 8J 2.0 TFSI if you want that brand prestige without the r8 repair bills. tl;dr: do not buy it. 95k miles on an r8 is way too risky for a first time buyer on a budget.
Honestly, id love to tell you to go for it because the R8 is a dream car, but 95k miles on an early model is kinda asking for a disaster if you aren't prepared for the bills. Unfortunately, these cars have some major issues that pop up right around that mileage. I had issues with my friends 2009 model and it was a nightmare to keep on the road. You gotta look out for a few things that usually fail:
Late to the thread but I had a similar itch last year and almost pulled the trigger on a high-mileage R8. I spent weeks digging into service records because with that many miles, you really gotta look at the R-tronic clutch life. If it hasnt been replaced recently, youre looking at a massive bill right out of the gate. I ended up passing because the PPI showed the hydraulic pump was dying. If you want that supercar vibe without the engine out repair bills, maybe consider a Lexus LC 500 5.0L V8 or a Jaguar F-Type R 5.0L Supercharged V8. They handle daily use better. If youre dead set on the Audi tho, make sure to get a Ross-Tech VCDS Hex-V2 Diagnostic Interface to scan for hidden codes first. Itll save you from buying a 60k paperweight... honestly, these get expensive fast when maintenance is deferred.
