Is the BMW M Performance exhaust worth the upgrade?

Hey everyone! I recently picked up a G20 M340i, and while I absolutely love the drive, the stock exhaust feels a bit too quiet for my taste, even in Sport Plus mode. I’ve been eyeing the official M Performance Exhaust (MPE) because I want to keep my warranty fully intact, but that price tag is definitely giving me pause. I’m really looking for those deeper tones and more pronounced burbles without dealing with annoying cabin drone during my highway commute. For those who have actually installed it, is the sound increase significant enough to justify the cost over the stock setup, or would I be better off looking at aftermarket options?

In my experience, the upgrade to the BMW M Performance Exhaust for G20 M340i is absolutely worth the investment if you value a balance between daily drivability and aggressive sound. I've had mine installed for about a year now, and I’m seriously satisfied with how it transformed the car.

To be direct, the difference isn't just a minor volume bump; it deepens the tone significantly. You get those satisfying, crisp burbles and pops in Sport Plus that the stock system lacks, but—and this is the big one for me—it’s totally civil on the highway. There is zero annoying cabin drone when you're cruising in Comfort mode at 70-80 mph. Honestly, it’s the perfect "grown-up" exhaust.

Price-wise, yeah, it’s steep at around $2,000 to $2,500 depending on your dealer and tips. But you have to factor in the long-term value. Keeping that factory warranty intact is a massive peace of mind, and the fitment of an OEM part is always going to be superior to most aftermarket setups. If you went with something like the AWE Tuning SwitchPath Exhaust for BMW G20 M340i, you might get more volume, but you're risking warranty headaches on a newer car. I’m happy I stuck with the official MPE... it just works well without any compromises. If you can swing the cost, go for it!

For your situation, it really comes down to the valved setup. After years of modding BMWs, I've found the BMW M Performance Exhaust System G20 M340i is the only way to get that OEM+ sound without killing your highway comfort.

If you want more volume but less cost, consider these:
* AWE Tuning SwitchPath Exhaust for BMW G20 M340i: Great valves, zero drone.
* Dinansport Free Flow Axle-Back Exhaust G20 M340i: Deeper tone, usually cheaper.

Honestly, the MPE is a safe bet for resale value alone!

Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, I’ve seen so many guys go the cheap route only to regret it when the drone starts rattling their brain at 75 mph.

In my experience, you’re paying a premium for the engineering and the fact that it integrates perfectly with your drive modes. But if the BMW M Performance Exhaust G20 M340i price is still too steep, have you checked out the AWE Tuning Touring Edition Exhaust for BMW G20 M340i? It’s a solid middle ground that uses their patented drone-canceling tech. Anyway, back to the cost—remember that the MPE usually holds its resale value way better. If you sell the car later, you can swap the stock one back on and sell the MPE for 60-70% of what you paid. That makes the "real" cost much lower! 🚗

Hello! The M Performance Exhaust for your G20 M340i significantly enhances the sound, delivering deeper tones and more pronounced burbles, especially in Sport Plus. While costly, it preserves your warranty—a major benefit. Cabin drone is typically minimal, making highway driving comfortable. For your needs, the MPE is a worthwhile OEM upgrade.
