Hey everyone! I finally joined the Audi club after picking up a 2018 A3 2.0T a few weeks ago. I absolutely love the car and how it drives, but coming from the previous owner, it is looking a bit too stock for my taste. It is the standard Premium trim, so it lacks that aggressive S-Line or S3 edge that I really admire when I see them out on the road.

I have been spending way too much time scrolling through forums and Instagram looking for inspiration lately, but there are just so many different options out there that it is getting a bit overwhelming. I really want to add some personality to the exterior without going overboard or making it look tacky. I am definitely aiming for that OEM+ vibe where it looks like it could have come from the factory that way if I had just checked a few more boxes on the order sheet.

I have a few ideas in mind already based on what I have seen, but I would love to know what actually looks good in person and holds up over time. Specifically, I have been looking at a few common upgrades:

  • RS3-style honeycomb front grilles (debating between the silver frame or the all-black look)
  • Carbon fiber mirror caps to replace the body-colored ones
  • A subtle rear trunk lip spoiler to sharpen up the back profile

I am also curious about things like front splitters or side skirt extensions. Do they actually make a big difference on the non S-Line bumpers, or do they end up looking a bit out of place if the car is not lowered? I am also a bit worried about fitment issues with some of the cheaper brands I see online, so I would really appreciate any recommendations on specific brands or styles that you guys swear by.

I really want this car to stand out a bit more when it is parked, but I want to do it right the first time without wasting money on parts that do not fit. If you had to pick the most popular and effective exterior styling accessories for the Audi A3 right now, what would your top recommendations be?

Stumbled upon this today and congrats on the new ride! I totally agree with the first reply... the grille and the spoiler are definitely the big personality shifts you need. If you want to keep it looking classy and reliable though, I would suggest looking at the smaller technical details that most people overlook when they are starting out. For the mirror caps, honestly, avoid the cheap stick-on covers you see on eBay. They tend to yellow in the sun or just fly off if the adhesive fails at highway speeds. I would go with something like Karbel Carbon Fiber Side Mirror Covers A3 S3 RS3. Since those are full replacements, you wont have weird gaps and they actually stay secure. While you have the mirrors apart, you should really look into DyanBlink Dynamic LED Side Mirror Turn Signals Audi A3 8V. It replaces the boring blinker with a sequential light like the higher-end trims, and it is a direct plug-and-play swap that makes the car look way more modern. Another thing to consider for that OEM+ look is the wheel fitment. Since you are worried about splitters looking weird without lowering the car, try pushing the wheels out to be flush with the fenders instead. It makes the car look wider and more aggressive without actually changing the ride height or scraping on speed bumps. I have found that H&R Trak+ Wheel Spacers 10mm Silver in the front and H&R Trak+ Wheel Spacers 12mm Silver in the back works perfectly with the stock Premium wheels. Just make sure you get the extended lug bolts to match; never cut corners on wheel safety when you are doing spacers!

Quick reply while I have a sec. I am usually pretty conservative with mods because I worry about long-term durability. Market-wise, Audi Genuine Splash Guards Front A3 8V are way sleeker than the bulky RallyArmor UR Mud Flaps Audi A3. They provide a subtle flare to the arches while protecting your paint. It is a great way to get that wider look without the risk of scraping or fitment issues.

Yo, I totally feel you on the struggle of making the base bumper look more aggressive. When I first started modding my 8V, I was really hesitant about a front lip because I thought it might look goofy at stock height. Honestly, its actually one of the best ways to fix that narrow look the standard A3 has. I originally cheaped out on a generic lip and it was a nightmare... the plastic was flimsy and it didnt even match the bolt holes. I ended up switching to the Maxton Design Front Splitter V.1 Audi A3 8V Facelift Standard and the quality difference was night and day. It really helps fill out the front end and gives it that S-Line presence without needing a whole new bumper. If youre doing this on a budget, definitely skip the no-name stuff because youll just end up buying it twice when the first one cracks or sags. Stick to brands that actually prototype on the car.

Same setup here, love it

Building on the earlier suggestion, the grille and spoiler really are the most effective ways to kill that stock look. Most of the guys here are spot on about the RS style front end being the biggest game changer... it just makes the car look wider and more aggressive immediately. Im super happy with my setup and honestly doing the work yourself is half the fun. Just a quick tip though, when you do the grille swap, make sure you hit your crash bar with some Krylon Fusion All In One Matte Black Spray Paint first. If you leave it silver it shows right through the honeycomb and ruins the effect. If you want to finish off the side profile without going too low, I definitely recommend the 034Motorsport Dynamic+ Side Blades Audi A3 S3 because the fit is great and they dont look like cheap plastic add-ons. They really help tie the front lip and rear together. Good luck with the build, youre gonna love the transformation!

Congrats on the pickup! Honestly, the best bang for your buck is the honeycomb grille. It completely changes the whole vibe of the car. I went with the EMD Auto RS3 Style Mesh Grille Gloss Black and the fitment is basically OEM. Also, a subtle trunk lip like the ECS Tuning Gloss Carbon Fiber Trunk Spoiler Audi A3 makes the rear look way more aggressive without being over the top... really nails that OEM+ look.
