sorry if this is a dumb question but i have zero idea where to start looking for a car. i really want an audi a4 because they look so nice but i keep finding sketchy sites or just brand new ones that are way too expensive. i have about 15k saved up and im in the seattle area. i just need something reliable for my new commute.

is there a specific site or maybe a place in person i should go to?

  • under 15k total
  • preferably white or black
  • not too many miles

i dont want to get scammed since i dont know anything about how cars actually work...

If youre hunting for a solid A4 in Seattle for under 15k, you gotta be surgical about it! Honestly, the best places are Autotrader and the filters on the Audi USA pre-owned search tool. For that budget, youre looking at the B8.5 generation, specifically the 2013 to 2016 models. I love these because they finally fixed the massive oil consumption issues found in the older 2009 to 2012 versions. Those early ones were a nightmare but the later ones are fantastic. Heres exactly how I would approach the search to avoid scams and find a reliable one:

  • Narrow your search specifically to the Audi A4 2015 2.0T Quattro Premium Plus because the facelifted B8.5 models are much more reliable than the B8 ones.
  • Check Craigslist and FB Marketplace but only if the seller has full service records from a reputable local shop like Achtuning in Redmond. Seattle has some great independent specialists.
  • Run a full VIN check through a service like Carfax to verify the mileage and accident history.
  • If you really want to be technical, buy a Ross-Tech VCDS Hex-V2 diagnostic cable. You can plug it into the OBD-II port during the test drive to see hidden fault codes that a cheap scanner might miss! The A4 is a fantastic car once you find one that was actually maintained. Just make sure the timing chain tensioner has been checked since thats the big killer on these 2.0T engines. Good luck finding a clean white one, they look amazing!

Saw this today... dont know if you prefer manual or automatic? The Audi A3 2015 1.8T is more efficient and modern, while the Audi A4 2013 2.0T Quattro has better handling and room.

@Reply #1 - good point! Honestly tho, finding a clean one for 15k in Seattle is kinda depressing right now. I wanted one so bad but most i see are totally trashed and just not as good as expected...

  • are you setting aside extra cash for repairs or is 15k your max budget?
  • just search for Audi A4 common problems on youtube, there are some great guides.
  • check the audi subreddits too, they basically have a whole wiki on this.
