Just picked up a 2022 RS 6 Avant here in the PNW and honestly it's already fast but I'm looking to push it a bit further. I've spent hours looking at Stage 1 options and I'm stuck between the APR tune and the ABT power kit. I read that APR gives more raw power for the price but then some people are saying the ABT is safer for the engine and warranty even though it costs a fortune more. My budget is around 8-10k for now and I really want to keep it reliable since it's my only car for getting to the office. Is the intake actually worth the money or should I just stick to a tune and maybe some downpipes...
Ive spent years tuning V8 Audis and the C8 is a fantastic platform to start with. In my experience, the choice between APR and ABT really comes down to your personal risk tolerance and how you want that power delivered. The APR Stage 1 ECU Upgrade for Audi C8 RS 6 Avant offers significantly more torque and raw aggression than the ABT unit. It feels like a completely different car when you bury the throttle. I have run APR files on several daily drivers over the years without a single hiccup, provided you dont skip your maintenance intervals. The ABT Power S Performance Upgrade for Audi RS 6 is a different beast entirely. It is a more sophisticated piggyback solution that communicates with the factory ECU rather than a full overwrite. It costs significantly more but it stays within more conservative safety margins. If this is your only car and you are worried about the PNW dealership giving you trouble, ABT is usually the safer bet for maintaining a good relationship with service advisors, though nothing is ever 100 percent certain with warranties. Regarding your question on intakes, something like the Eventuri Gloss Carbon Fiber Intake for Audi C8 RS 6 is absolutely stunning and provides great induction noise, but honestly, it is mostly eye candy. For a budget of 10k, I would prioritize the tune first. If you want more sound and a bit more flow, maybe look at the Akrapovic Evolution Line Titanium Exhaust System for Audi RS 6 Avant instead of doing downpipes. Downpipes can be a massive headache with emissions and smell, which isnt always ideal for a professional office setting.
> Is the intake actually worth the money or should I just stick to a tune and maybe some downpipes... Late to the thread here but I have been messing with these V8 twin-turbos for a long time and honestly, the ECU is only part of the puzzle. If you are sitting on a 10k budget, you really need to address the transmission and the heat management of the exhaust. In my experience, downpipes make a massive difference in how the turbos spool, but please dont go catless for a daily driver. I have run Redstar Exhaust Heat Shielded Downpipes with HJS HD 200 CPSI Cats on my last two builds and the heat shielding is non-negotiable. It keeps the engine bay temps much lower which protects your plastics and wiring long-term. The raw power is cool and all but melting your harnesses is a nightmare. You also have to think about the gearbox. Most people skip the TCU tune but that is a mistake once you push past Stage 1 power levels. I highly suggest the Unitronic Stage 2 TCU Upgrade for Audi C8 RS6. It bumps up the clutch clamping pressure so the trans can actually handle the extra torque without slipping. Plus it makes the downshifts way more aggressive when you are in RS mode. Since you mentioned the office commute, you might want a bit of a stance change without losing the comfort of the air suspension. I swear by the Cete Automotive Active Suspension Module for Audi RS6 C8 because it gives you full control via an app but keeps the factory ride quality. Much better investment than an intake if you are looking for actual performance and drivability gains... intakes are mostly for the sound anyway.
Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.
I grabbed the CSF High Performance Intercooler Set for Audi C8 RS6 and its amazing! No more heat soak during my Seattle summer commutes, keeping the power super reliable and safe!
