Ive been looking for an M3 for like six months now and honestly Im just about to give up because everything I find is either marked up $10k over MSRP or its a used 2022 with 15,000 miles that theyre trying to sell for more than the original sticker price like who actually pays that?? My logic was that maybe the market would have cooled down by now since the interest rates are so high but it feels like dealers in the tri-state area just dont care at all and theyre holding out for some whale to come in and pay the market adjustment fees.

Im looking specifically for a G80 M3 Competition xDrive because I need it to be my daily driver and handle the snow here in New York but every time I call a dealership they tell me theres a 12-month waitlist unless I want to buy one of their executive demos that has been driven into the ground for $95k. I was thinking about maybe looking further out like in the Midwest or even down South and just shipping it but then I worry about not being able to see the car in person or getting hit with hidden fees once I get there.

My budget is pretty firm at $88k-ish because I dont want my monthly payment to be basically a mortgage but every deal I see online turns out to be fake once you actually talk to a human. Here is what Ive tried so far:

  • called every dealer within 100 miles of NYC
  • checked the forums daily for private sales
  • even looked at M4s even though I really need the four doors for my kids

Is anyone actually seeing anything reasonable out there or are we still in this weird bubble where M3s are treated like gold bars? Im honestly so frustrated because Ive wanted this car since I was a kid and now that I finally have the money saved up it feels like the goalposts just keeps moving further away. If anyone knows a broker or a specific dealer that isnt doing markups or maybe has an allocation theyre trying to move fast please let me know because Im close to just going and buying a CT5-V Blackwing instead even though my heart is set on the BMW...

Man, I totally feel you on the tri-state struggle. NYC dealers are honestly the worst with those markups. I was in your exact shoes about eight months ago trying to find a BMW M3 Competition xDrive G80 Sedan and everyone in Jersey wanted $10k over. I ended up looking way down in Maryland and Virginia and found a dealer that does straight MSRP. It is definitely possible to stay around that $88k mark if you are patient and willing to travel a bit. I am super happy with how it worked out tho. I finally snagged mine and it has been the best daily driver ever. Since you are worried about the snow, definitely grab some BMW M3 G80 All-Weather Floor Mats immediately because the salt in NY will wreck the carpet. Have you tried looking at brokers on LeaseHackr or Bimmerpost? I used a broker for a small fee and they found me an allocation in the Midwest within two weeks. Even with the $500 broker fee and $1k shipping, I still saved like $8k compared to the local guys. It works well and honestly takes the stress out of the whole hidden fee thing because they pre-negotiate everything. Dont give up on the G80 yet, the Blackwing is cool but the xDrive in the snow is just on another level of confidence. Stick to your budget and just expand the search radius... there are definitely honest dealers out there who wont fleece you just because of the zip code.

Are you tracking this? Watch out, I once got burned by Midwest fees. The BMW M340i xDrive Sedan is softer for dailying, unlike the stiff, pricey BMW M3 Competition xDrive G80.
