Hey everyone! I recently picked up a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 5.3L V8, and while I love the truck, the stock exhaust is just a little too quiet for my liking. I’m looking to upgrade to a cat-back system that provides a deep, aggressive growl when I step on it, but I really want to avoid that annoying highway drone since this is my daily driver.

I’ve been looking at options from Borla and MagnaFlow, but I’m torn between the different sound levels. I want something high-quality that won’t rust out after one winter, so stainless steel is a must. My budget is around $1,200, and I’m planning on doing the install myself in the driveway, so a bolt-on kit with good fitment is a priority. I’m also curious if any of you have noticed a slight bump in throttle response or MPG after switching.

For those of you running an aftermarket setup on your Sierra, which brand and specific series would you recommend for the best balance of sound and daily drivability?

In my experience with these V8s, you've really gotta be careful about the active fuel management (AFM/DFM) drone. When it drops to four cylinders, some exhausts sound like a wet weed whacker. Since you're looking for quality and easy DIY, I’d suggest looking at the MagnaFlow Street Series Cat-Back Performance Exhaust System 19539. It’s full 409 stainless steel and uses a larger muffler body to specifically kill that highway hum while keeping a deep growl when you're heavy on the pedal.

Technically, you might see a tiny 1-2 MPG bump if you keep your foot out of it, but honestly, you'll probably lose MPG because you'll want to hear it roar! Anyway, back to your question:

* **Material:** Stick to T304 or 409 stainless for those winters.
* **Install:** Most of these are bolt-on, but make sure to soak your factory bolts in PB Blaster the night before.
* **Alternative:** If you want something slightly more budget-friendly but still high-end, check out the Corsa Performance Sport Cat-Back Exhaust 21040. Their RSC technology is industry-standard for zero drone. Good luck with the driveway install!

Hi there! Honestly, I was in the exact same boat as you last year with my Sierra. I really wanted that V8 growl but I'm pretty cheap and didn't want to blow my whole mod budget on just the exhaust. For your situation, I would suggest checking out the MBRP Armor Plus 3-Inch Cat-Back Exhaust System S5092409.

It's made from T304 stainless steel, so it handles the salt and grime of winter without rusting out, which was a huge priority for me too. The best part is the price—it usually sits well under your $1,200 limit, leaving you some extra cash for other tweaks. Installation was a total breeze in my driveway; it’s a true bolt-on kit and everything lined up perfectly with the factory hangers.

Sound-wise, it gives you that deep, throaty rumble when you're accelerating, but it's surprisingly mellow at cruising speeds. I haven't noticed any annoying drone on the highway, even when the cylinders deatcivate... wait, deactivate. I think the 3-inch piping actually helped my throttle response feel a bit snappier, though I haven't seen a massive jump in MPG (it's hard to keep your foot off the gas when it sounds this good, lol). It’s been a really solid value for me so far. Hope this helps!

For your budget, I'd definitely go with the Borla S-Type Cat-Back Exhaust System 140773BC. It's high-quality T-304 stainless, sounds aggressive when you're on it, but honestly has zero highway drone!
