I’m finally taking delivery of my GMC Hummer EV next week, and I’m beyond excited! However, I’m a bit intimidated by the sheer size of the battery pack. Since it has that massive 200+ kWh Ultium battery, I know I need a serious Level 2 setup at home to get decent charging speeds overnight. My standard wall outlet definitely isn't going to cut it here.

I’m looking for something reliable that can ideally handle higher amperage to take advantage of the Hummer's charging capabilities. I have a 100-amp circuit available in my garage, so I’m leaning towards a hardwired unit rather than a NEMA 14-50 plug-in to get those faster speeds. I’ve looked at the ChargePoint Home Flex and the Tesla Universal Wall Connector, but I’m curious if there are better options specifically tailored for the GM Ultium platform or if the official GM PowerUp charger is the way to go.

Does anyone here have experience charging their Hummer EV at home? Specifically, which brand/model are you using, and how long does it actually take you to top off from, say, 20% to 80%? Any advice on units with a long enough cable to reach the charging port on this beast would be much appreciated!

Given the Hummer EV's massive 200kWh+ battery, you really want a charger that maximizes its 19.2 kW onboard capacity. For the fastest home charging, the Grizzl-E Ultimate 80A or the GM PowerUP+ are top picks; both require a 100A circuit but can add ~30 miles of range per hour.

If a 100A install is too much, the ChargePoint Home Flex (48A/50A) is a forum favorite for its reliability and excellent app. It's perfect for consistent overnight charging!

I went through this last year when I first brought my Hummer home, and man, I totally get the anxiety! That battery is basically a small power plant. I initially tried a standard plug, and it was honestly hilarious how little the percentage moved overnight. Since you have that 100-amp circuit, you definitely want to maximize it!

I looked at the options mentioned, but I actually ended up going with the Enel X Way JuiceBox 80 Smart EV Charging Station. It’s a beast that can put out 80 amps when hardwired, which is amazing for a truck this size. I also peeked at the Tesla Universal Wall Connector because the built-in adapter is super handy if friends with Teslas visit, but for pure speed, that 80-amp output is king. From 20% to 80%, it usually takes me about 8-10 hours, so it's always ready by morning! Just make sure the cable is long enough; mine is 25ft and barely reaches if I park a bit weird. Good luck with teh delivery! 🚗⚡

I went through this last year. Honestly, I was shocked at the install quotes for those 80-amp chargers. To save some cash, I compared the Grizzl-E Classic 40-Amp EV Charger against the high-end stuff. Well, actually, I ended up with the Emporia Level 2 EV Charger 48 Amp hardwired on a 60-amp breaker. It cost about $400 and works well for my 20-80% overnight top-offs without breaking the bank!

Hi there, and congrats on the beast! Honestly, since you have a 100-amp circuit, don't waste it on a plug-in unit. To fill that massive battery, you really need an 80-amp output. In my experience, the GM Energy PowerUp+ Wall Charger 19.2kW is actually your best bet here. It's designed to max out the Hummer's dual onboard chargers. Most others, like the ChargePoint Home Flex 50 Amp, cap out at 50 amps, which will feel painfully slow on a 200kWh pack. Hardwiring the GM unit lets you pull the full 19.2kW, taking a 20% to 80% charge from a grueling 20+ hours down to about 8 or 9. Just a heads up though—make sure your electrician uses heavy-gauge wire; I've seen some guys try to cut corners and it ends up overheating the terminals. Hope this helps!
