Hey everyone! I recently picked up a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500, and while the stock tires were okay for highway driving, they just aren't cutting it now that I'm spending more time off the pavement. I’m looking to upgrade to a solid set of all-terrain tires that can handle some weekend trail riding and muddy construction sites without making my daily commute unbearable.
I’m trying to find that perfect balance between aggressive off-road traction and decent on-road manners. I’m particularly concerned about road noise at highway speeds and how they perform in wet or light snowy conditions, as I do a fair amount of winter driving. I’ve been looking at options like the BFGoodrich KO2s or the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs, but I’m worried about how much they might impact my fuel economy or if they’ll feel too stiff on the Denali suspension. My budget is around $1,200 to $1,500 for the set.
For those of you running a Sierra 1500, what tires have you had the best luck with in terms of longevity and ride quality? Do you have a specific brand or model that you’d recommend for someone who does about 70% highway and 30% off-road driving?
Seconding the recommendation above for the Michelin's, but from a technical safety perspective, you should really look at the Continental TerrainContact A/T. It features a specialized +Silane tread compound that provides superior wet braking and traction—critical for a heavy truck like the Sierra 1500. It's much quieter than the KO2s on teh highway and won't compromise your Denali's ride quality. Definitely a solid choice for 70/30 driving! 👍
For your 70/30 split, I’d seriously look at the Michelin LTX A/T2. They’re incredibly quiet on highways and won't ruin your Denali's ride quality while still handling mud and light snow easily.

Hey! Congrats on the new Sierra 1500. Honestly, I've been driving GMC trucks for over fifteen years now, and finding that sweet spot for a Denali suspension can be tricky because you don't want to ruin that smooth ride. For your 70/30 split, I’d steer clear of the Duratracs—they get loud as they wear and might be too aggressive for your daily highway commute.
In my experience, the absolute best balance for a Sierra is the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2. I've run several sets of these, and they are legendary for a reason. They handle muddy sites without breaking a sweat, but they’re still relatively quiet on the pavement. Another fantastic option that's actually been better in the wet and light snow for me is the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W. These have amazing siping for winter traction and tend to stay quieter than the KO2s as the miles rack up.
Here’s what I’d suggest looking at:
* BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 LT275/60R20: Great all-arounder, very tough sidewalls for construction debris.
* Falken Wildpeak A/T3W 275/60R20: My top pick for wet/snow performance and ride comfort.
* Michelin LTX A/T2: If you want the best fuel economy and longevity, though slightly less aggressive looking.
One thing to keep in mind... moving to an E-rated tire will definitely make the ride feel stiffer. If you can find them in a P-metric or SL rating, your Denali suspension will thank you. Hope this helps you narrow it down! Good luck!
