Hey everyone! I recently joined the club and finally picked up my dream car—a brand new Honda Civic Type R. I’m absolutely in love with the performance and that iconic red interior, but now that the initial excitement has settled, I’m starting to think about long-term protection and some quality-of-life upgrades.
I really want to keep the cabin looking showroom-fresh while adding some functionality. For starters, I’m looking for recommendations on high-wall floor mats that actually fit the aggressive footwell shape perfectly, as I'm terrified of ruining that red carpet. I’ve also noticed the infotainment screen is a total fingerprint magnet—has anyone found a tempered glass screen protector that doesn't kill the touch sensitivity?
Lastly, I’m a bit torn on the Alcantara steering wheel. It feels amazing, but I’m worried about it getting matted over time. Do you guys suggest a specific cleaning kit, or is there a subtle cover that doesn't ruin the aesthetic? I want to keep things looking clean and OEM-plus rather than cluttered.
For those of you who have been daily driving your CTR for a while, what are the absolute must-have interior accessories you’d recommend to a new owner to keep the car pristine and functional?
I went through this last year. Honestly, I had some pretty bad luck with my first few purchases and ended up wasting cash, so I’m highkey cautious now. I bought some 'fitted' mats that barely covered the sides and I was so disappointed when some mud ruined a patch of that red carpet... took forever to clean. - For the floors, I finally settled on TuxMat Custom Car Floor Mats. They’re pricey, but they cover almost every inch of the carpet. Most others leave too much exposed imo and don't protect the vertical bits well enough.
- Screen protectors were a headache. I tried a cheap film one first and it literally bubbled in two days. I eventually switched to the Pigenius 9 Inch Tempered Glass Screen Protector and it’s okay, but sensitivity is still a tiny bit off compared to bare glass. - With the Alcantara, I tried a cover but it felt bulky and actually slipped once while turning. Super dangerous. Now I just use Dr. Beasley’s Microsuede Cleanser but honestly, it’s a lot of work to keep it from matting. Just be careful! peace.
Yo! Congrats on the pickup!! Honestly, I totally get that "new car paranoia"—I’ve had my CTR for over three years now and felt the exact same way when I first sat in those red seats. Keeping that red carpet pristine is a full-time job if you dont have the right gear from day one. I mean, the performance is amazing, but that interior is what you actually see every day, right?? Here is what I highkey recommend after living with mine and trying a bunch of different setups: * **Floor Mats:** WeatherTech FloorLiner DigitalFit for 2023 Honda Civic Type R are basically the industry standard for a reason. They fit the aggressive footwell like a glove. But if you want something that looks a bit more "OEM-plus" and covers even more of the red, check out TuxMat Custom Fit Floor Mats for Honda Civic. They have a more premium, leather-like texture that blends in way better than the industrial rubber look.
* **Screen Protection:** I went with the Spigen Tempered Glass Screen Protector for 2023-2024 Honda Civic and it's literally invisible. Touch sensitivity is perfect and it actually makes the screen easier to clean. Totally worth the 20 bucks to stop the fingerprint madness.
* **Alcantara Care:** Please dont get a cover! It totally ruins the aesthetic. Instead, grab some Sonax Upholstery and Alcantara Cleaner and a soft Colourlock Alcantara Cleaning Brush. Basically, just spray a little on a microfiber, wipe it down once a month, and use the brush to fluff the fibers back up. It wont get matted if you stay consistent. So yeah, my biggest lesson learned is that prevention is sooo much easier than restoration. Seriously, that Alcantara gets greasy fast from hand oils if you dont stay on top of it. Just keep a microfiber in the glovebox and you’re golden. Enjoy the car, its a total beast! 👍
I went through this same panic last year! * Dailying in rain?
* Rubber or carpeted? Evaluating ur environmental exposure is basically the first step for a proper technical interior protection plan!
Yo, congrats on the pickup!! Ngl, that red interior is iconic but it's a total nightmare to keep clean. Respectfully, I'd suggest a different approach for the steering wheel. I've seen people use covers, but in a high-performance car like the CTR, any cover that isn't stitched on can slip during hard cornering—that's a HUGE safety risk. Basically, don't trade your driving grip for aesthetics. Instead, focus on these reliability-tested items:
* Floor Protection: Get the WeatherTech FloorLiner 441711 for the front. They lock into the factory anchors so they'll NEVER slide under your pedals.
* Screen: To kill the fingerprints, I recommend the LFOTPP 9-Inch Tempered Glass Navigation Screen Protector. It's thin enough that it doesn't mess with the touch sensitivity. Tbh, for the Alcantara, just use a damp microfiber. Keeping it simple is kinda better for the material anyway. gl! 👍
