picking up my RRS PHEV tomorrow and im panicking. i dont want to ruin it so my logic was mudflaps because of the seattle rain but the dealer is confusing me. i have about 1k left to spend.

  • mudflaps
  • side steps
  • protective film

what do i actually need so i dont regret it...

In my experience, these PHEVs kick up a ton of grit. I once skipped protection on a 2020 model and the front was basically sandblasted by spring. Honestly, spend that 1k on XPEL Ultimate Plus Paint Protection Film for the high-impact zones. It saves the paint from Seattle road salt and gravel way better than flaps ever could. TL;DR: Prioritize PPF for the front end to prevent permanent rock chips.

Late to the party but congrats on the new RRS. Honestly, Seattle roads are a nightmare for glass and trim, ngl. Since you have 1k left, I would focus on the high-cost failure points rather than just aesthetics. Over the years, I have found that Land Rover windshields with the integrated heating elements and ADAS sensors are a huge liability. In my experience, these are the best ways to spend that remaining budget:

  • ExoShield Windshield Protection Film: This is a 4-mil thick high-impact film. It makes the glass roughly 6x more resistant to rock chips. Replacing these heated windshields can easily run you 2k or more, so spending 500 or 600 bucks here is basically an insurance policy.
  • Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra 10H Ceramic Coating: If you arent doing a full wrap, get at least the trim and pillars coated with this. It has a 10H hardness rating and 9-year durability. The black trim on the RRS is notorious for showing swirl marks and fading from acidic rain. This keeps it looking factory new without constant polishing. I've tried many different setups and I'd skip the side steps. They actually decrease your ground clearance slightly and just dump road grime on your legs every time you get out. If you have any money left over, grab a Land Rover Genuine Rubber Floor Mat Set because the Seattle mud will absolutely trash those OEM carpets by next week. Good luck with the pickup tomorrow.

> what do i actually need so i dont regret it... To add to the point above: PPF is great but it wont stop the grit hitting the lower doors. I'd actually suggest Land Rover Genuine Mudflaps instead of side steps. Steps just trap road salt and gunk. If you really want to protect the finish from Seattle rain, maybe look into Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour for the rims. It makes cleaning off that nasty brake dust way easier... honestly a lifesaver.
