Look, I am honestly so fed up with how my GX is performing right now. I bought this thing because everyone said it is basically a fancy Land Cruiser Prado but every time I take it out to the trails near Silverton it just feels like a heavy boat that scrapes on literally every single rock. My buddy has an old 4Runner that cost half as much and he is just cruising while I am constantly worrying about my side steps getting ripped off or my bumper catching on a ledge. It is just so annoying because I know the potential is there but the stock height is killing me. I have got about 4000 bucks to spend before my trip to Moab next month and I need to get this thing sorted because right now it is just frustrating to drive off-road. I already swapped the tires to some KO2s but that hasnt helped with the clearance issues at all. I am thinking about a lift kit but there are so many options and I dont want to ruin the ride quality on the highway since it is still my daily driver. Plus I keep hearing about KDSS and honestly it is just confusing me more. What are the absolute top recommended off-road accessories for the Lexus GX that actually make a difference and wont just be a waste of money? Man, I feel your pain. The GX is a beast but that stock plastic trim makes it look way lower than it actually is. Over the years I have built out two GXs and a Prado, and honestly, you gotta stop the bleeding by getting it off the ground first before your Moab trip. 1. Suspension. Skip the cheap spacers, they just ruin the ride. In my experience, the Dobinsons IMS 2.5 Inch Lift Kit Lexus GX460 is the absolute sweet spot for a daily driver. I have tried many setups and these monotube shocks handle the KDSS weirdness way better than basic nitro shocks. It kills that boat-like swaying without being too stiff. Another solid option is the Old Man Emu 2 Inch Lift Kit GX460 Medium Load which is basically bulletproof, tho it feels a bit more truck-like on the highway. 2. Rock Sliders. Those factory steps are basically made of paper and are the first thing to get trashed. Go with something like the Victory 4x4 Strike Rock Sliders Lexus GX460. They tuck up high, give you way more clearance, and can actually support the weight of the truck on a rock. Dont skip these or youll be replacing rocker panels soon. 3. Skid Plates.
