Hey everyone! I recently picked up a new Mazda CX-90 and I’m absolutely in love with the interior, but I’m also a bit terrified of what my 70-pound Golden Retriever might do to those nice seats. We do a lot of hiking on the weekends, so I’m dealing with muddy paws, shedding, and the occasional wet dog smell.
I’m specifically looking for a high-quality seat protector that fits the CX-90’s dimensions well. Since I have the second-row captain’s chairs, I’m struggling to find something that covers the seats properly without looking messy or interfering with the center console area. I’m also curious if anyone has found a cover that doesn't block the rear climate vents or the seatbelt buckles, as safety and comfort are huge for us. I’ve looked at some universal options on Amazon, but I’m worried they’ll be too loose or slide around on the leather.
Does anyone have a specific brand or custom-fit model they’d recommend for the CX-90? I’m willing to spend a bit more for something durable and waterproof that actually stays in place. What are you guys using to keep your Mazda looking new while still bringing your pups along for the ride?
yo!! congrats on the CX-90, that interior is literally GORGEOUS so i totally get why ur nervous about ur golden retriever lol. i actually just dealt with this for my captain's chairs and honestly, i think i found the best fix!
1. WeatherTech Seat Protector for Captain's Chairs - this one is basically the gold standard cuz the specs show it's super heavy-duty poly-cotton fabric. it doesnt slide around on the leather at all and it's actually waterproof! it covers the seat base and back without blocking the armrests, which is amazing.
2. 4Knines Crew Cab Over the Console Dog Bed and Seat Cover - i love this cuz it has a specific flap that covers that awkward gap between the chairs. it fits the CX-90 dimensions pretty well, tho it's a bit thicker. basically keeps the mud off the console too!!
ngl i was worried about the vents too but the WeatherTech Seat Protector sits high enough that it doesnt block the floor vents. maybe check those out?? gl! 👍
Honestly, I've spent a crazy amount of time researching the market for the CX-90 specifically, and while those universal hammocks and the WeatherTech covers mentioned earlier are okay, I'd actually suggest a different approach if ur really worried about the captain's chairs. Respectfully, I'd consider another option because those slip-on styles always end up bunching up and looking kinda messy after a long hike with a 70lb dog, plus they totally kill the vibe of that gorgeous interior!
I'm pretty cautious about safety too, so I went with the 4Knines Floor Hammock for Captain's Chairs XL. It's literally a game changer because it doesn't just drape over the seat; it covers the floor gap between the chairs where dogs usually try to squeeze through. It's super durable and waterproof, which is amazing for the wet dog smell you mentioned.
If you want something that looks like it came from the factory, you really gotta look at Covercraft SeatSaver Custom Seat Covers. They're pricey (around $250-300), but they're patterned EXACTLY for the CX-90 dimensions. They won't block the rear vents or those important seatbelt buckles, which is huge for me. I was so nervous about my leather getting scratched, but these stay in place perfectly. Just make sure you get the ones specific to your trim level! It's better to spend a bit more now than regret it when ur Golden Retriever accidentally punctures that nice leather... hope this helps! 👍
Quick question—are you looking to cover the actual console between the seats too, or just the chairs? I'm not 100% sure if the Orvis ones I've seen fit the CX-90's specific dimensions without bunching up.
I went through this last year when I first got my CX-90. Honestly, I spent forever overanalyzing the technical specs of those custom-fit covers that cost like $300+, but I just couldn't justify the price tag after dropping so much on the car itself... Plus, I was super worried about the rear climate vents being blocked cuz my Golden gets hot SO easily.
I ended up trying a more budget-friendly route with the Vailge Dog Car Seat Cover for Back Seat and surprisingly, it fits the second-row captain's chairs pretty decently if you tuck the extra fabric down the sides. It was only about $35-40 on sale. It's technically a "universal" fit, so it's not a perfect glove-like match, but it's waterproof and basically indestructible against muddy paws. I also grabbed two of the URPOWER Dog Seat Belt 2-Pack for like $10 to keep her secure without interfering with the actual seat sensors. It’s not as fancy as the custom ones, but it definitely keeps the leather safe from the hiking mess for way less cash! Just gotta be careful with the middle gap between the chairs tho...
Great info, saved!
Good to know!
