Hey everyone! I finally took the plunge and picked up a new Mazda CX-90 PHEV last week. I'm absolutely loving the driving dynamics and the premium feel of the interior, but I’ve quickly realized that the cargo area is a bit of a puzzle, especially when transitioning between hauling the kids and making a big grocery run.

Since the CX-90 is still relatively new to the market, I’m trying to figure out which cargo accessories are actually worth the investment. With the third row up, the trunk space is definitely on the snug side, so I’m looking for ways to maximize every inch. On the flip side, when I have the third row folded down, there is a massive amount of space, but I’m terrified of scuffing up that nice upholstery with strollers, sports gear, or the occasional hardware store haul.

I've been looking at the official Mazda all-weather cargo tray, but I’m curious if it actually covers the back of the third-row seats when they’re folded down? I’ve seen some aftermarket seat-back protectors online that claim to offer full coverage, but I’m always a bit skeptical about the fit and finish compared to OEM parts. Also, a specific PHEV struggle: where are you guys storing your Level 1 charging cables? Mine is currently just rolling around in the back because the under-floor storage seems a bit tight, and I’d love a more elegant solution than just tossing it in a corner.

I’m also considering a heavy-duty cargo net to keep groceries from sliding around during those 'spirited' EV-mode accelerations. If anyone has experience with specific brands—or if there's a 'must-have' item I haven't even thought of yet—I’d really appreciate the insight. I’m willing to spend a bit more for quality, as I plan on keeping this car for a long time.

What are your top recommended cargo accessories for the CX-90 PHEV, and is there anything you bought that turned out to be a total waste of money?

Sooo congrats on the new ride!! Honestly, I totally get the frustration. The CX-90 PHEV is amazing to drive but that cargo situation is kinda a mess. I had issues with the official Mazda gear myself... I bought the Mazda CX-90 All-Weather Cargo Tray thinking it would be a one-and-done, but unfortunately, it doesnt cover the seat backs at all. You have to buy the Mazda CX-90 Rear Seat Back Protectors separately for like another $90, which feels like a total rip-off for what it is.

If you want a better deal, I'd basically skip the OEM mats. Look into the ANBINGO Cargo Mat for Mazda CX-90 2024-2025 instead. It usually runs about $75 and actually comes as a 4-piece set that covers the floor AND the seat backs. It uses velcro to stay attached when you flip the seats up and down. Seriously, it's such a better value and fits almost as good as the pricey stuff.

For that charging cable? Since the under-floor is so tight cuz of the battery, I just use a Sancora EV Cable Bag. It's like $15 on Amazon and keeps it neat in the side corner. And for the groceries sliding around during those EV launches (lmao I do that too), grab a Starling's Car Trunk Organizer for about $35. It has built-in straps to clip into the tie-down hooks so it won't budge. Much more useful than a net imo! gl with the new whip!! 👍

Respectfully, I'd consider another option cuz expensive mats dont stop stuff from flying around. Safety-wise, that heavy charger is basically a projectile in a wreck!!

- Amazon Basics EV Charging Cable Carry Bag ($15)
- Tuff Viking 43x24 Heavy Duty Bungee Cargo Net ($18)

Honestly, ur wallet will thank you... and it works!!

tbh I had issues with the expensive OEM tray; it actually doesn't cover the seats. Get the Powerty All Weather Cargo Mat for Mazda CX-90 2024 for $80 instead. Much better! gl!

Yo, congrats on the new ride! Honestly, I’ve spent way too much time obsessing over my own cargo setup since I picked mine up... totally get the struggle with the kids vs groceries balance.

In my experience, that Level 1 charger was the biggest headache. I tried leaving it in the bag it came with, but it just slid around like crazy. Basically, I found that if I coiled it super tight, I could wedge it into that small under-floor space without using the bulky case it came in. It’s a bit of a squeeze, but it actually works and cost me nothing to fix!

For the seat backs? I’m pretty budget-conscious, so I skipped the official Mazda gear. I ended up finding a generic set of protectors that just velcro onto the carpet. They aren't a perfect 1:1 fit for the CX-90 specifically, but they've saved my upholstery from stroller wheels and hardware store hauls so many times already. Seriously, such a relief not worrying about every little scuff when the rows are down.

And yeah, the 'spirited' EV mode is real lol. I just use a stretchy cargo net I had from my old car. It hooks right into the factory points and keeps the groceries from becoming projectiles when I’m heavy on the pedal.

Anyway, i'd say start small and don't feel like you have to buy everything at once. You don't need to drop $500 to make it functional. gl with the new beast!
