Where to find custom sunshades for a Mazda CX-5 windshield?

I’ve been driving my Mazda CX-5 for a few months now, and with the summer heat really picking up, I’ve noticed the interior gets incredibly hot when parked outside. I tried one of those cheap, universal accordion-style shades from a local big-box store, but the fit is terrible. There are huge gaps around the rearview mirror and the sides, which defeats the purpose since the sun still bakes my dashboard.

I’m really looking for something that offers a snug, edge-to-edge fit specifically for the CX-5’s unique windshield shape. I’m particularly concerned about protecting the materials on the dash and keeping the cabin temp down for my kids. I've looked at a few options like WeatherTech and Covercraft, but I’m curious if anyone here has hands-on experience with them? I’m hoping to find something that is durable and doesn't roll up into a giant, awkward cylinder that takes up too much space when not in use.

Does anyone have a go-to brand or a specific site where they bought a high-quality, custom-fit shade for their CX-5? I'd love to hear what's actually worth the money!

Sooo I actually spent way too much time obsessing over this when I got my CX-5 last year. I totally get the struggle with those floppy generic ones—they literally do nothing for the dash. I tried a few and, honestly, the technical fitment is tricky because the Mazda sensor housing near the rearview mirror is pretty bulky.

Since someone already mentioned the folding style, I HAVE to suggest looking at the WeatherTech Custom Fit SunShade. It’s actually reversible! It has a silver reflective side for the summer to bounce those UV rays off, and a black side for winter that supposedly helps trap a bit of heat when you're parked in the cold. I mean, it is a roll-up style, which you mentioned being wary of, but it’s NOT like those cheap ones. It’s thick and stays stiff.

Another one that’s highkey underrated is the AutoTech Zone Custom Fit Windshield Sun Shade. It’s a bit more budget-friendly than the big brands but the edge-to-edge coverage is basically perfect for the CX-5's glass.

TL;DR: If you want the technical best for heat rejection, go with WeatherTech Custom Fit SunShade. Just be careful when rolling it up; it takes a sec to get used to the size. Honestly, anything custom-fit is gonna be 100x better for your kids' comfort than those big-box store ones. Good luck!

Oh man, I totally feel u on this! I've been there with those cheap shades and they're basically useless... seriously. For your CX-5, I've gotta say the Covercraft Custom UVS100 Sunscreen is literally amazing. It's a folding hard shield, so it doesn't do that annoying rolling thing you mentioned! Honestly, it fits *perfectly* edge-to-edge. It keeps the cabin sooo much cooler for the kids. Definitely worth the money imo! Good luck!!

Sooo I totally get the safety-first mindset here! Keeping the interior cool isn't just about comfort—if the dashboard gets too hot, it can actually off-gas or degrade over time, and let's not even talk about how hot those seatbelt buckles get for the kids. Serious burn risk there.

Since others mentioned Covercraft, I'm gonna throw a different option into the mix that I've used on my own CX-5. I highly recommend the HeatShield The Original Windshield Sunshade Custom Fit for Mazda CX-5. It’s technically a roll-up style, but it’s super rigid compared to those cheap ones. The reason I suggest this from a safety perspective is the coverage—it gets right up into the edges of the A-pillars and behind the ADAS sensor housing (the big plastic box by your mirror), so there's literally NO light leak hitting your dash.

Another solid one if you want that folding style is the WeatherTech Custom Fit SunShade for Mazda CX-5. It's reversible with a black side for winter to help defrost, but the silver side is top-tier for UV reflection. Just be careful with cheaper "custom" knockoffs on Amazon because they often use materials that can flake off onto your dash. Whatever you pick, make sure it has the cutout for the Mazda safety sensors so it doesn't put pressure on the glass or the camera housing. Good luck keeping the car cool! 👍
