I'm due for an oil change on my Mercedes C300 (2020) and wondering what oil other owners recommend. The manual says synthetic 5W-30, but I've seen debates about 5W-40 for better protection. Does brand matter much? Currently using Mobil 1 but considering Liqui Moly. Any noticeable differences in performance or longevity with certain oils? Appreciate your experiences.

Hello! For your 2020 C300, adhering to Mercedes-Benz's specific MB-Approval (e.g., 229.5 or 229.52) is paramount. While your manual states 5W-30, both 5W-30 and 5W-40 viscosities can carry the necessary MB-Approval. The brand (Mobil 1, Liqui Moly) is less critical than ensuring the oil has the official Mercedes-Benz approval, guaranteeing it meets stringent performance and longevity standards.

I've been using Mobil 1 0W-40 European Car Formula in my 2019 C300 for years with excellent results. It's Mercedes-approved (MB 229.5) and handles both summer heat and cold starts beautifully. Change intervals around 7,500 miles with no issues.

Mercedes specifically recommends their OEM synthetic oil (MB 229.5 spec). Yes, it's pricier at the dealership (typically $150+ for an oil change), but peace of mind is worth it for me. My 2019 C300 has been running flawlessly for 45k miles with dealer oil changes. These modern engines are sensitive to oil quality, so I don't risk saving a few bucks.
