I’m looking to add a magnetic mount to my 911, but I want something that matches the high-end interior without looking like bulky plastic. Does anyone have experience with mounts that clip onto the air vents or center console seamlessly? I'm specifically worried about the magnet strength and fitment. Any recommendations for a minimalist brand that fits the Porsche aesthetic?

dude i've tried so many, but what's your budget and which 911 generation are you rocking?? fitment varies highkey between a 991 and 992, tbh i wanna help you find that OEM look!

oquikkwrgm is spot on with that. The vent design and trim clearance change a ton between generations. I am finally happy with my setup after worrying about the same stuff... nothing worse than a phone flying off during a sharp turn. A few technical things to consider:

  • Are you looking for a mount that supports wireless charging, or just a basic magnetic hold?
  • Does your phone have a heavy case, or are you going for a slim MagSafe look? Magnet pull force is the biggest factor since these cars have stiffer suspension. If the fitment isnt perfect, the vibration eventually shakes things loose or might even scuff the leather. Definitely worth getting the technical specs on the grip strength before pulling the trigger.

Re: "Gonna try this over the weekend. Will report..."

  • Look, dont waste your money on those generic Amazon clips. Ive spent way too much time and money trying to find a mount that doesnt look like a plastic tumor on my dash. In my experience, if it isnt bolted to the car, it is gonna fail the first time you take a corner at speed. The 911 interior is tight and those vent slats are surprisingly fragile. I learned that the hard way. You really want a mount that uses the existing dashboard geometry instead of just sticking something on there.
  • Metal over plastic: Every single time. Plastic vibrates and eventually snaps under the weight of a Pro Max phone.
  • Mounting point: The ones that tuck behind the center console trim are the only ones that look OEM.
  • Magnet: Needs to be high-grade N52 magnets to handle high G-force. Seriously, check out the Rennline ExactFit Magnetic Phone Mount Porsche 991 or the A-S-R Porsche 992 Phone Mount. They are made of powder-coated steel and actually match the high-end feel of the cabin. Its the only way to go if you actually care about fitment and reliability long-term. Just my two cents after ruining a vent on my last car... never again.

Like someone mentioned, you really gotta be careful with those vent slats because they're way more fragile than they look. I've been through a few different setups over the years and found that the high-end brands are usually worth the extra coin if you want it to actually stay put during spirited driving. Honestly though, just search for 911 magnetic mount comparison on YouTube or check the recent threads on Rennlist.

  • Check the comparison videos for your specific gen
  • Look at the install guides on the brand sites
  • Read the long-term reviews on the dedicated forums I saw a killer video a few weeks back that compared like four of the top brands side-by-side in a 992. It is way better than any advice I can give here and it shows exactly how the fitment looks from every angle. I am super satisfied with what I ended up with after seeing that and havent had a single issue since.
