Hey everyone, I recently picked up a 2022 RAM 1500 and I’m already looking to swap out the stock highway tires. I do a fair amount of daily driving on the pavement, but I spend my weekends heading out to some muddy trails and gravel roads for camping, so I need something that can handle both worlds without sounding like a jet engine on the highway. I’ve been leaning towards the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs or the BFGoodrich KO2s because I see them everywhere, but I’m worried about how they’ll affect my gas mileage and if they’ll get too noisy as they wear down. My truck has the 20-inch wheels, and I’m hoping to find a set that looks aggressive but still offers solid traction in wet and light snow conditions. I’m trying to stay around the $1,200 to $1,500 range for the full set. For those of you running a similar setup on your RAM, what have you found to be the best balance between off-road capability and everyday comfort?

Hey! For your RAM 1500, both Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs and BFGoodrich KO2s are popular choices, but the KO2s generally offer a better balance for daily driving. They tend to be slightly quieter on the highway and have less impact on gas mileage compared to the more aggressive Duratracs, while still providing excellent off-road and wet/light snow traction. Duratracs excel more in deep mud but can be noisier as they wear. For your 20-inch wheels and $1,200-$1,500 budget, also consider the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W. They are highly regarded for their aggressive look, strong all-around performance in wet and light snow, and often come in at a competitive price point, offering a great blend of off-road capability and on-road comfort. Many users find them to be a quieter alternative with good tread life.

Hi there, I've had a moment to think about this more from a technical angle. Since you're worried about noise and MPG on those 20-inch wheels, you might find the Tire Rack testing results really useful for comparing real-world decibel levels and rolling resistance.

While the previous reply mentioned the Falkens, I'd suggest looking at these two alternatives for a RAM 1500 setup:

1. **Toyo Open Country A/T III 275/55R20**: This is honestly one of the best for wet traction. It has a very rigid block design which helps prevent that "cupping" noise as they wear down compared to the Duratracs. It's a bit more "technical" in its rubber compound, meaning it stays flexible in light snow (3PMSF rated).

2. **Continental TerrainContact A/T 275/55R20**: If highway comfort is your top priority, this is the one. It’s less aggressive for deep mud, but for gravel and wet pavement, the data shows it's significantly quieter than the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2.

Check out the "Tire Decision Guide" on Tire Rack's site too; it's a great resource to filter by load rating since the RAM 1500 doesn't necessarily need a heavy 'E' load tire, which saves you weight and gas. Hope this helps!

Hi there! For your RAM 1500, I would suggest looking at the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W 275/55R20. I've been running these for a while and honestly, I'm super satisfied with how they handle wet pavement and light snow. They're way quieter than the Duratracs on the highway, fwiw. The tread is aggressive enough for gravel, and they haven't killed my MPG. They're a great balance for daily driving!

Hey! Saw this earlier but just now responding—congrats on the 2022 RAM! Getting that balance of "aggressive look" vs "highway manners" is honestly the holy grail for truck owners. For your $1,500 budget, you can definitely get something fantastic without teh "jet engine" noise.

Here's what I recommend based on real-world value and performance:

1. Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S 275/55R20: These are the absolute best for daily driving in my opinion. They’re incredibly quiet and handle wet pavement and light snow better than almost anything else. Plus, they usually come with a 65,000-mile warranty, which is amazing for an AT tire! It's a very practical choice if you're worried about long-term costs.

2. General Grabber A/TX 275/55R20: If you love the look of the KO2 but want better wet traction and a lower price point, this is it. They have a really aggressive tread and sidewall that handles gravel and mud easily, but the compound is engineered to stay quiet on the highway. I think they're better than the Duratracs for noise? Dont quote me on that, but in my experience, they wear much more evenly.

3. Nitto Terra Grappler G2 275/55R20: A solid middle ground. They look great and provide awesome traction on those weekend camping trips. The best part is they aren't overly heavy, so your MPG shouldn't take a massive hit compared to those stock highway tires.

That said, definitely stick to an "SL" or "XL" load rating if you aren't doing heavy towing—it'll keep the ride soft adn save you money at the pump. Good luck with the build!
