Hey everyone! I’m looking for some advice on the best magnetic phone mount for my Subaru Impreza. I’ve been using a cheap suction cup mount on the windshield, but with the summer heat, it keeps falling off, and it’s honestly starting to block too much of my view.

The Impreza’s dashboard layout is a bit unique with the secondary multi-function display on top and the main Starlink touchscreen below it, so finding a spot that doesn't obstruct a screen or a vent is proving to be a real challenge. I really prefer a magnetic setup because I hate fumbling with those plastic cradles every time I get in and out of the car. I’m currently using an iPhone with MagSafe, but I’m totally open to adding a metal plate to my case if the magnet is strong enough to handle some bumpy backroads.

I’ve looked at some vent mounts, but the vertical slats in the Impreza seem a bit flimsy, and I’m worried about the weight of the phone dragging them down or blocking the airflow. Has anyone found a specific brand or a custom-fit base that works perfectly with the Subaru interior? What specific magnetic mount are you using in your Impreza that stays secure without rattling?

Hi there! I've been through a few mounts in my Impreza and honestly, be careful with those vent clips—the slats are definitely too weak for a heavy iPhone. For your situation, I would suggest the ProClip Center Mount 855214 combined with the ProClip MagSafe Holder 216248. It clips securely into the dash seams, so it won't fall off in the heat or block your screens. Just make sure it's snapped in tight so it doesn't rattle on those backroads! Hope this helps!

Hi there! I totally get the struggle with the Impreza's dashboard layout—it's definitely a weird space to work with, especially with that upper multi-function display. Before I give a full recommendation on a budget-friendly setup, I'm curious about one thing: are you using a case with your iPhone, or are you going caseless? Also, does your case have the built-in MagSafe ring, or would you be sticking the metal plate directly onto the back?

I'm asking because if you're looking for the best value, something like the Scosche MagicMount Pro Dash is a decent option that's usually around $25, but the magnet strength varies depending on the surface contact. Honestly, if you're hitting bumpy backroads, the technical specs of the magnet really matter. Knowing your case setup will help me figure out if a standard MagSafe mount will cut it or if we need to look at a high-pull force alternative like the Steelie Dash Mount Kit. Let me know!

I went through this last year. Honestly, it was such a headache trying to find a spot in the Impreza that didn't feel like a compromise. I totally get the frustration with the heat; I had a suction mount literally melt off the glass and leave a sticky residue during a July heatwave. Not fun.

Technically, the issue with our dashboard is the surface texture and the heat-soak. Most adhesives fail because the dash material is slightly porous, which prevents a true vacuum seal. I experimented with a few things before settling on a more permanent solution.

1. **Magnetic Pull vs. Vibration:** I found that standard N52 magnets are okay, but for bumpy backroads, you really need a mount with a reinforced magnetic array.
2. **Vent Physics:** You're spot on about the slats. They aren't designed for lateral or vertical load, and over time, the weight of an iPhone+can+actually+snap+th&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">iPhone can actually snap the internal plastic linkage.

I eventually tried the Scosche MagicMount Pro Dash which used a 3M VHB adhesive. It was better, but the heat still got to it eventually. What finally worked for my setup—and gave me that rock-solid feel—was the iOttie ITap Magnetic 2 Dash & Windshield Mount. I ended up mounting it on the flat plastic trim just to the side of the multi-function display. It keeps the phone out of the direct line of sight but close enough for GPS. I believe the key is using a primer on the plastic before sticking anything down? Don't quote me on that, but it helped teh adhesive bond way better. It's still a bit of a bummer that the interior layout makes it so difficult, but that's Subaru life I guess!

In my experience, car mounts are a total safety issue if they aren't rock solid—especially with the dual-screen setup in our Subarus. Over the years, I've tried many mounts that ended up as projectiles during hard braking, which is seriously scary. For your situation, I would suggest looking at the Scosche MagicMount Pro Dash MS specifically designed for MagSafe.

I'm a bit of a stickler for value, and while the ProClip others mentioned is great, it can get pricey. I actually found a sweet spot by using the Course Motorsports Direct Fit Phone Mount for Subaru Impreza 2017-2023. It's a CNC-cut bracket that bolts behind the trim, so it doesn't use the weak vents or messy adhesives that melt in the summer heat. It costs about $40-$50, but it's a buy-it-once kind of deal.

I've been using that bracket paired with a Spigen OneTap Magnetic Dash Mount head for about a year now. Honestly, it stays perfectly secure even on the washboard gravel roads I hit for hiking. It places the phone right next to the Starlink screen without blocking the top MFD or the airflow. It’s a bit of a DIY install (you gotta pop a piece of trim, don't quote me on the exact screw size though!), but the stability is worth the ten minutes of work. Definitely a safer bet for those hot summers! Hope this helps!

To add to the point above: basically you really gotta be careful with those adhesive mounts on the textured dash. Most of those pre-applied pads just dont handle the cabin heat in a Subaru during the summer and they will eventually peel off or leave a mess. I would suggest grabbing some 3M VHB 5952 Heavy Duty Mounting Tape and swapping out whatever comes stock on the mount. It is much more reliable on our dash material. Also, you might want to consider sticking a mount like the LISEN Magsafe Car Mount to the side of the center console trim instead of the dash top. It keeps the phone lower, away from the vents and screens, and that plastic is way better for adhesives than the soft-touch dash stuff. TL;DR: Upgrade to heavy-duty 3M VHB tape and try mounting on the lower console side to keep your view clear and the bond strong.

Honestly, I've been through so many setups in my Subarus that I've lost count. I'm not 100% sure which one is the magic bullet for the Impreza specifically, but I think I've heard people comparing the Peak Design ecosystem against the more standard stuff like iOttie or Belkin. IIRC, some guys in a local group were saying the Peak Design magnets are some of the strongest out there, but I'm uncertain if their adhesive mounts play nice with our dash texture when it gets really hot. Then you have brands like Belkin that usually make decent MagSafe stuff, tho they always seem a bit more fragile to me compared to the more rugged brands. Someone told me once that the magnets in those cheaper no-name brands can actually mess with your compass or something, tho I don't know if that's actually true for modern iPhones. Just something to keep in mind... it's basically a choice between a clean look and something that might actually stay put on a bumpy road. Personally, I'm still trying to figure out if the boutique brands are actually worth the extra cash or if it's all just marketing.
