I just picked up my Model S Plaid and the straight-line speed is incredible, but I want to sharpen the overall driving dynamics for some upcoming track events. I am specifically looking for upgrades that help with cornering and heat management. I have been researching lightweight forged wheels to help with agility and am seriously considering a brake cooling kit or better pads since the factory setup feels a bit soft after heavy use. I am also curious if anyone has installed an aftermarket spoiler or diffuser that actually provides functional downforce. What are the best performance-focused mods you have added to your Plaid to make it feel even more dialed in?
> Pads vs Cooling vs Carbon I would suggest getting anything from Unplugged Performance Seconding the recommendation above. Here is a budget comparison for ur Plaid:
yo dude congrats on the plaid!! honestly that straight line speed is just mind blowing but i totally get what you mean about the brakes feeling soft cuz the car is just sooo heavy and physics is a real pain lol. basically these heavy evs turn into giant heat sinks when you track them. the kinetic energy from that speed has to go somewhere and it all ends up as heat in the rotors and tires which is why everything starts feeling mushy after like two laps. its all about thermal management if you wanna stay out there for more than a few minutes!! before i dive in i gotta ask what tracks are you planning to visit? also are you looking for a setup you can drive every day or just for track weekends?? here is what i have been playing around with on mine:
Just reading through and yeah, reliability is the big one people forget. In my experience, you can have all the power in the world but if your suspension arms cant handle the stress, youre just asking for a bad time. Honestly, just look at anything from Mountain Pass Performance for the handling side of things. Theyve got the geometry figured out better than most. Or if you want aero that actually stays on the car, just go with Vorsteiner. Its funny, tracking the Plaid is so different from the old days. I used to spend hours under my old project cars just covered in gear oil and swearing at rusted bolts. Now im just sitting in the AC checking battery temps on an app... it feels like cheating sometimes but my back definitely appreciates it. I do miss that old garage smell tho. Anyway, stick to the solid brands and you should be fine. But yeah.
Curious about one thing: what tracks are you hitting??
