Hey everyone, I am beyond excited to finally have my Cybertruck sitting in the driveway! I have spent years hitting the trails in my old 4x4, but transitioning to a fully electric platform for off-roading feels like a massive leap into the future. While the truck is obviously built like a tank right out of the box, I know from experience that the factory setup usually needs some serious reinforcements if you are planning on doing more than just driving over a curb at the local mall.

I am currently planning some pretty technical trips through the Rockies and maybe a desert run later this year. My main concern is the sheer weight of this beast. At nearly 7,000 pounds, the idea of getting stuck in deep sand or thick mud is a little terrifying. I have been looking into recovery gear, but I am curious if anyone has found specific kinetic ropes or winch mounting kits that integrate well with the Cybertruck frame without looking like a total afterthought.

I am also really focused on underbody protection. Even though the battery pack is shielded, I would feel much better with some heavy-duty skid plates and especially some rock sliders that can actually support the weight of the truck if I high-center on a boulder. I have seen a few companies starting to pop up with these, but I want to know which ones actually hold up to real abuse and do not mess with the air suspension sensors or ground clearance.

Another priority for me is storage. I need a modular bed rack system that can support a heavy rooftop tent and maybe some extra gear like traction boards. I am trying to keep the aerodynamic drag to a minimum so I do not totally kill my range, but durability is my number one priority right now.

For those of you who have already taken your truck off the pavement and into the wild, what rugged accessories have you found to be absolutely essential for a serious build? Are there specific brands that you think are leading the way for high-quality, durable Cybertruck gear?

Just sharing my experience: I went through this same stress last year. Honestly, that 7,000 pound weight is NO joke. I spent weeks researching how to protect the battery without making the truck even heavier. I looked at a few paths for the underbody stuff and here is how I saw it:

  • Unplugged Performance INVINCIBLE Cybertruck Underbody Armor vs T Sportline Cybertruck Rock Sliders
  • Armor Pros: bulletproof protection, covers everything. Armor Cons: very heavy and costs a ton.
  • Sliders Pros: cheaper, keeps ground clearance. Sliders Cons: might not protect the center battery as well on a high-center. I went the cautious route and just did sliders for now. I was realy worried about the air suspension failing under all that extra steel. Just be careful with the bed racks too... I mean, the aero drag is realy gonna kill ur range if you go too tall. Make sure to check if the sensors are still clear after you bolt things on. It is a wierd platform to work on, so maybe talk to a shop first. Anyway, stay safe out there! cheers

Yo, I saw this post earlier but wanted to double-check some specs before jumping in. NGL, the 7,000lb curb weight changes the math for everything, especially regarding kinetic energy during recovery. Before I drop a full list of gear, can you clarify what kind of total payload youre looking at with the RTT and full gear? If youre pushing 8k lbs total, basic recovery straps literally wont cut it. You might want to consider:

  • Bubba Rope Power Gain Kinetic Recovery Rope 7/8 inch x 30 foot - its rated for 28,600 lbs which is the bare minimum safety margin I would suggest for a stuck Cybertruck.
  • Warn Zeon 12-S Platinum Winch - you basically need a 12k lb rating to account for suction in mud.
  • Factor 55 ProLink Bridle - for distributing the load across two recovery points so you dont twist the front subframe. But yeah, definitely let me know about the total weight you expect to carry. I am super cautious about the air suspension sensors getting knocked by generic sliders... seen that happen on other heavy EVs and its a nightmare to recalibrate. lmk!

tbh I was in your shoes a few months back, totally terrified about that weight on the trails. Honestly, you dont have to drop ten grand to get the truck trail-ready. I went with a more budget-friendly set of rock sliders and a bed rack system from a smaller shop I found online. I was a bit nervous about the fitment at first, but the installation was super smooth and theyve saved my panels on at least three different outings already. The most satisfying part for me was finding a way to mount my gear without destroying my range. I noticed that keeping the profile of the rack lower than the roofline really helps. On my last trip, I barely saw a 5% hit on my efficiency even with the boards and extra water jugs up there. My current setup just works, and I didnt have to take out a second mortgage for it. Just make sure whatever you get actually mounts to the factory points because you dont want to be drilling into this frame if you can avoid it. Let me know if you want to know more about the mounting, its a total blast once you get it off the pavement.
