Which sound system is best for Tesla Model S? I'm unsure about the choice.

For Tesla Model S definitely Alpine iLX-W650. Very good quality for the price.

My clear recommendation for Tesla Model S: Pioneer DMH-WT7600NEX. The fit is perfect The product includes all features you need.

Technical highlights: The latest generation offers significantly better quality. Very good compatibility with Tesla Model S features. Can be used without problems for various purposes. Even after extended use, no quality losses. Very good build quality, even at high usage.

Do you already have a preference? That could influence the choice.

Honestly, I am still pretty new to the whole Tesla modding scene but I spent like three weeks reading every spec sheet I could find before I touched my car!!! I was super worried about the power draw and the technical side of the ohm ratings because the electrical system in the Model S is so specific

  • I was looking at the nominal impedance and how it would interact with the factory amp's output stage for days. I finally went ahead with the setup I got and it was way more stressful than I thought. I kept checking the technical data on the driver sensitivity but when it came to actually putting things in... I nearly broke three clips. The sound is way better now but I realized that just looking at the numbers on a screen is totally different from how it actually feels in the cabin while driving. I would definitely recommend checking the mounting depth before you buy anything because the space is super tight. Before I give more advice though, what year is your Model S and do you have the premium audio package already?? It makes a huge difference in what you can actually do without cutting into wires and stuff. TL;DR
  • I did a DIY swap based on technical specs and learned that physical installation is way more of a headache than the data suggests. Knowing if you have the base or premium system already would help a lot!!!

Interesting question! For Tesla Model S it also depends on your driving style. What's your main concern?

So basically the thread so far is leaning heavily towards head units like the Alpine and Pioneer options for better features but if you're looking for an actual *acoustic* jump in quality you should definitely look into the drivers themselves. Tbh I've been researching the Light Harmonic s75 Speakers lately and they seem like a massive upgrade over the factory paper cones plus they're engineered for the specific air volume of the S doors (which is super important for mid-bass response) and the installation isn't even that bad if you have a basic panel tool. Another solid path would be the Focal Inside IC T3Y 100 kit because they’re basically plug-and-play and handle the power from the stock amp way better without distorting at high volumes... I’m still a little fuzzy on the exact impedance curves for the newer S models but for most of them this is the best way to get that *premium* feel everyone's talking about!

Exactly what I was thinking

TL;DR: I am literally having this exact same struggle right now! Seriously, I have been digging through technical forums and wiring schematics for my Model S for like three months and I am still totally stuck! I really want to upgrade but I am so worried about the power draw on the 12v system and the weird impedance from the factory amp. It is honestly so frustrating because I just want amazing sound but every technical path I look at seems like a dead end or way too expensive!
