So I finally pulled the trigger on a Plaid and yeah the speed is literal insanity but I'm starting to worry about the handling and stopping power for when I actually take it to the track. I live out in SoCal so I'm planning on hitting Willow Springs in about two months and I really want to dial it in before then. I've been looking at the Unplugged Performance brake kits because everyone says they're the gold standard but then I saw the official Tesla carbon ceramic kit and now I'm just torn. My logic was that the Tesla kit would be better for warranty stuff but then I read some forum posts saying that just doing aftermarket pads and high-temp fluid might be enough for a casual track day without dropping twenty grand.

I've got a budget of maybe $15,000 for everything and I'm really debating if I should prioritize wheels or the suspension first. I saw those lightweight forged wheels that supposedly shave off a bunch of unsprung weight but on a car this heavy does 10-15 pounds per corner even matter? I'm also seeing conflicting stuff about spoilers and aero. Some say it helps with high speed stability which the Plaid definitely needs but others say it just kills the range for daily driving. Just trying to figure out what gives the most bang for your buck for a weekend warrior setup or if there is something else I'm missing...

Saw this earlier but just jumping in now. @Reply #1 - good point! I'm super satisfied with the fluid upgrade, it works well but you really need to fix the suspension geometry. The Plaid is heavy and without better control, you'll just cook your tires.

@Reply #1 - good point! Love it! For safety, grab Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect 285/35ZR21 so you dont lose grip and slide out mid-turn... total game changer!

Congrats on the Plaid! That speed is literal insanity and I love it. I remember my first time at Willow, the adrenaline was crazy but my brakes got soft fast. I think high-temp fluid is the biggest bang for your buck early on.

  • Lightweight wheels felt huge in the turns.
  • Aero didnt hurt my range much. IIRC, some guys said expensive kits are overkill for casual days, tho I'm not 100% sure!
