Are there custom sunshades available for the Volkswagen ID.7?

I recently took delivery of my Volkswagen ID.7 and I’m absolutely loving the drive, but the summer heat is starting to become a real issue. With that massive panoramic glass roof and the large windshield area, the cabin gets incredibly hot when parked outside for more than an hour. I’ve tried using one of those cheap, universal-fit spring sunshades I had lying around, but it’s far too small and leaves huge gaps on the sides, which defeats the purpose.

I’m specifically looking for a custom-fit sunshade that matches the ID.7’s unique window dimensions perfectly to help protect the dashboard and keep the interior temperature down. I’m also curious if anyone has found a high-quality mesh or solid insert for the glass roof, as the electronic dimming feature is cool, but it doesn't seem to block the actual heat soak as well as a physical barrier would. Does anyone know if WeatherTech, Covercraft, or even VW themselves have released official custom accessories yet? I’d prefer something foldable rather than roll-up for easier storage. Has anyone found a specific brand that fits the ID.7 like a glove?

Respectfully, I'd consider another option like ceramic tint over bulky inserts. Physical shades can literally fall while driving, which is a HUGE safety risk compared to the reliable 3M Crystalline Ceramic Window Film.

For your situation, I've gotta say that I'm basically in the same boat and honestly, it's pretty disappointing how much heat that glass lets in. I tried the generic stuff too and it was a total disaster. So, I did some technical digging because I'm super worried about the long-term heat damage to the dash materials.

Since the ID.7 is still so new, WeatherTech TechShade and Covercraft Custom Sunshade haven't officially listed it in their dropdowns yet, but you can actually contact them for custom dimensions. Here's what I've found so far:

- I'm looking into the HeatShield Custom Fit Sunshade for Volkswagen ID.7 because they specialize in those massive windshields and use a thick reflective material that actually blocks IR.
- For that roof, the electronic dimming is cool but yeah, it's just light control, not heat control. I'm waiting on the QuikSnap Custom Side Window Sunshades or a similar mesh for the ID.7 roof because a physical air gap is the only way to stop the heat soak.

I'd be cautious with cheap suction cup versions though, cuz they might mess with the coating on that fancy glass. Plus, always check if they're foldable! I hate those roll-up ones too... they just take up too much room. Good luck!!

yo congrats on the new ride! honestly the ID.7 is such a dream to drive but i totally feel u on that cabin heat... it gets LITERALLY boiling in there because of all that glass. i’ve been researching this like crazy since i got mine cuz i noticed the same thing with the smart glass roof—it looks amazing but basically does nothing for the actual infrared heat soak!!

sooo here is the deal with what is out right now. since the car is still kinda new, some of the big names are playing catch-up. basically you have three main paths:

Option A: Custom folding shades. Covercraft UVS100 Custom Sunscreen for Volkswagen ID.7 is the gold standard imo. it is a triple-layer folding accordion style that fits the windshield like a glove. it is way better than those floppy universal ones cuz it actually covers the corners. plus it is foldable like you wanted!

Option B: The official route. you should check if your dealer has the Volkswagen Genuine ID.7 Sunshade for Windshield. it is usually a bit pricier but the fitment is 100% perfect since it is OEM.

Option C: For that massive roof, i found that the electronic dimming just isnt enough for summer. i actually bought a Vancool ID.7 Panoramic Roof Sunshade Mesh Insert and it made a huge difference! it is a physical mesh barrier that clips in. i guess u could also look at the Topfit ID.7 Glass Roof Thermal Cover if you want a solid block instead of mesh.

personally i would go with the Covercraft for the windshield and a mesh insert for the roof. it makes the AC work way less hard. good luck!! 👍

honestly i feel your pain with that heat soak... its brutal. i usually go the diy route for new models before the major brands catch up. for the windshield, i highly recommend the HeatShield Custom Windshield Sunshade. they've got the id7 patterns ready and they are super thick. pro is the total coverage, con is they roll up instead of fold so they're a bit chunky. for that roof, skip the fancy mesh and just grab some Reflectix Double Reflective Insulation and cut it yourself. it's basically the silver bubble wrap stuff. i cut a piece to match the glass and tucked the edges under the trim pieces. it keeps the cabin way cooler than any mesh insert because it actually reflects the ir light back out. plus it costs like ten bucks. if you really want a folding one for the front, check out the AutoTech Zone Custom Fit Sunshield. it's a bit more flexible than the heatshield and easier to tuck away behind the seats. pros are the price and storage, but it might not be quite as thick as the heavy duty ones.

Wait really?? Thats actually super helpful. I always thought it was the other way around.

@Reply #2 - good point! honestly its absolutely ridiculous that we are even having this conversation about a brand new car. i have been tracking my cabin temp delta and the heat soak coming off that glass is just insane! it drives me crazy how vw pushes this smart glass tech when the actual thermal performance and IR rejection percentages are clearly sub-par for real-world summer conditions. its such a scam that the hvac efficiency takes a massive hit because the car is basically a greenhouse. companies just dont seem to care about testing the thermal conductivity of these materials in actual heat anymore, they just want the aesthetic of the big glass roof. then you try to find a custom fit solution and realize the accessory market is totally asleep at the wheel! its incredibly frustrating to spend this much on a flagship ev and then feel like you are being cooked because the basic interior protection wasnt even an afterthought during development. absolute madness...
