I’m taking delivery of my EX90 soon and I'm worried about the winter slush and road salt damaging the paint. Since the body design is so clean, do mud flaps actually help prevent spray buildup on the rear sensors and cameras? I'd hate to ruin the aesthetics if they aren't effective. Does anyone have experience with Volvo's OEM flaps for this model?
Yep, this is the way

Had a moment to think more on this... Similar situation here! I highkey regret trying to save money with cheap universal guards last winter. Total waste!!
* Trapped grit actually scratched my paint.
* Ruined the aero, so range dropped.
* Sensors still got CAKED in salt...
So yeah, definitely dont assume cheaper options are better. Honestly, sometimes just hitting the touchless wash more often is the real pro move for your budget! peace

Sooo I actually just installed the Volvo EX90 Genuine Mud Flaps on my new ride and honestly... I'm kinda disappointed. I'm no expert since this is my first Volvo EV, but technically speaking, the way the air flows around the rear diffuser means the spray still hits the sensors anyway. Basically, mud flaps are designed to protect the lower rocker panels from rock chips and salt—which they do okay at—but they wont save your rear camera from getting covered in winter gunk. It's literally just how the physics work, right? I was hoping for better coverage for the price tbh. If you're worried about the paint, get them. But if you're hoping to keep the tech clean, they aren't as good as expected. Plus they look a bit *clunky* on such a sleek car... anyway gl with the new car!!
honestly, i've tried everything over the years to keep my cars clean in winter and mud flaps are usually a total toss-up. technically, they're great for preventing rock chips on the lower panels, but they barely touch the fine mist that ruins your camera visibility.
so basically, if you go with the Volvo EX90 Genuine Mud Flaps, you'll protect the paint but still be wiping those sensors every day. if you want real protection, WeatherTech No-Drill Mudflaps are usually more rugged but might not be out for the EX90 yet... honestly though, I'd skip the flaps and just get a high-quality Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra ceramic coating. it makes the slush slide right off, which is way more effective than plastic flaps ever were for me. peace!
