Which home charging accessories are recommended for the new Volvo EX90?

Hey everyone! I’m beyond excited because I finally pulled the trigger and put my deposit down for the new Volvo EX90. Since this is going to be my first flagship electric SUV, I’m trying to get my garage setup perfectly before the delivery day arrives. This car is a beast with that 111 kWh battery, so I know my old way of thinking about charging needs to level up compared to smaller EVs I've looked at in the past.

I’ve been doing some deep-dive research, but I’m honestly a bit overwhelmed by the accessory options out there. Volvo has their official Wallbox, which looks incredibly sleek and obviously matches the brand aesthetic, but it’s a bit of a premium investment. I’ve seen a lot of EV veterans recommending third-party options like the ChargePoint Home Flex or the Grizzl-E for its durability, but I’m worried about potential software handshake issues or missing out on EX90-specific charging data in the Volvo app.

One of the things that really sold me on the EX90 was the promise of bidirectional charging (V2G/V2H). Does anyone know if there are specific home accessories or a particular type of smart charger I should be buying right now to ensure I’m ready for that feature when it fully rolls out? I’d hate to hardwire a standard Level 2 charger today only to have to rip it out in a year to take advantage of the house-powering tech.

Also, I’m looking for practical daily-use recommendations. My garage is a bit narrow, so I’m definitely in need of a high-quality cable management system or a heavy-duty holster that keeps the cord off the floor and out of the way. Since I live in a climate that gets pretty chilly in the winter, I also need a setup with a cable that stays flexible in freezing temperatures—I've heard some can get stiff as a board!

For those of you already prepping or who have experience with Volvo's charging ecosystem, are you sticking with the official Volvo gear, or have you found a third-party setup that integrates better? And are there any 'must-have' smaller accessories, like specific NEMA adapters or even floor protectors, that you’d suggest for a new owner?

I would suggest basically waiting on V2G gear since its evolving, but totally grab the ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 EV Charger cuz its SO worth the cash for cold weather flexibility. gl!

Seconding the recommendation above! If you wanna save cash while waiting for V2G, check these: - Emporia Level 2 EV Charger 48 Amp: Amazing data tracking and half the price of Volvo's.
- Lectron V-BOX 48 Amp EV Charging Station: Better if you need a cable that stays flexible in the cold. I’m super satisfied with the Emporia—it’s a budget win! Also, a BougeRV EV Charger Plug Holder is a lifesaver for narrow garages.

Soo I was basically in the same boat prepping! My garage is tinyyy so I had to find ways to keep it clean. Check out these resources: - The EVoCharge EV Cable Retractor is a total lifesaver for narrow spots.
- Like you mentioned, the Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger is awesome cuz its cable stays flexible in the cold. Basically, dont stress V2G yet... the tech is still *so* new! 👍

Exactly what I was thinking

To add to the point above: everyone is right about V2G being in its infancy. You really cant buy a standard AC charger today that'll handle bidirectional power because that usually requires a specialized DC-to-AC inverter setup at the house. If youre looking for something that bridges the gap for a big 111 kWh battery, you might want to consider the specs on these instead:

  • Tesla Universal Wall Connector with Magic Dock
  • This is probably the most future-proof pick. Since Volvo and most others are moving to NACS, having the integrated J1772 adapter means it works for your EX90 now and whatever you buy in five years. Plus it handles 11.5 kW (48A) output easily.
  • Autel MaxiCharger AC Wallbox Home 50A
  • These are built like tanks for cold weather. The cable stays pliable down to -40F, which beats out almost everything else I've tested. It also has a very slim profile for tight spaces.
  • Camco Heavy Duty Cord Organizer with Handle
  • Since your garage is narrow, these simple straps are actually better than some bulky reels for keeping the cable flush against the wall. Honestly, dont worry about the Volvo app integration too much. Most of these chargers use the OCPP protocol, so you can track your juice consumption through their own apps without losing the EX90 data. Just make sure your electrician runs a 60-amp circuit to actually hit those 48-amp charging speeds for that massive battery pack. Itll save you a ton of time on the charger.
