I just picked up my Audi Q8 e-tron and need a solid bike rack for the factory hitch. I'm concerned about weight limits for heavy e-bikes and don't want anything that interferes with the rear sensors or charging port access. Does anyone have a specific brand or model that fits perfectly without needing an adapter?

I went through this last year when I got my e-tron, and honestly, the struggle with heavy e-bikes is REAL. I initially tried to save some cash and bought a cheaper rack from a big box store, but it was such a disaster. The tongue weight capacity on the Audi factory hitch is solid, but the rack itself couldn't handle the sway, and I literally thought my bikes were gonna fly off on the highway. Unfortunately, it also blocked the sensors so the car would scream at me every time I reversed lol. After that headache, I sucked it up and spent the extra money on the Thule T2 Pro XTR 2 Hitch Bike Rack. It’s pricey at around $750-800, but the integrated wheels make it so much easier to move around when it's off the car. It handles my 60lb bikes without breaking a sweat and clears the charging port area pretty well too. Definitely worth spending a bit more upfront to avoid the stress tbh!! gl!

Exactly what I was thinking

I went through this last year. Honestly, I did a ton of market research because I didn't wanna spend $800+ on the big brands. I tried the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider for Electric Bikes HR1500 after seeing it compared to the Thule, and while it's heavy, it's a TANK for e-bikes. Its usually around $500 which is way better for the budget. But yeah, unfortunately, my sensors still beeped a bit... kinda annoying but manageable i guess. gl!

Would love to know this too

In my experience, you gotta be super careful with the tongue weight on the e-tron. I've tried many racks, but honestly, the Kuat NV 2.0 2-inch Hitch Bike Rack is the only one I trust for heavy e-bikes. It's STURDY. It clears the rear sensors mostly, tho you might get a beep in reverse. Just make sure ur bikes don't block the charging port if u need to plug in while they're loaded!! peace

Regarding what #10 said about Interested in this too

  • I am seriously obsessed with getting the setup just right on these cars! Quick question tho for the OP... are we talking two heavy mountain e-bikes or just one? Also, do you have the factory air suspension on your Q8? This whole conversation brings back memories of my buddy Daves epic fail last summer. He bought this fancy electric SUV and thought any old rack would do.
  • The bikes were so heavy the rack started sagging halfway to the mountains.
  • We had to use like fifty bungee cords to keep the front wheels from spinning.
  • He eventually just gave up and shoved them in the trunk, which totally ruined his leather seats. It was such a mess and we missed the entire morning ride because of it! Love the enthusiasm for getting out there tho, nothing beats a weekend on the trails!
