I’m looking for a high-quality cover to protect my Z4. It’s mostly parked outdoors, so I’m worried about UV damage to the soft top and sap from nearby trees. I need something with a soft lining that won't scratch the paint and a really snug fit for the E85 body style. Any specific brands you’d recommend for tight weatherproofing?

In my experience, you really can't go wrong with the Covercraft Custom 5-Layer Softback All-Weather Car Cover. Honestly, I've tried many over the years and this one is the gold standard for the E85. It has that super soft fleece lining so it won't scratch your paint, and the fit is literally like a glove. It's a bit pricey at around $400, but cheaper covers usually fall apart after one season of UV exposure, you know? Plus, it's heavy enough to stay put during wind. Definitely worth the investment for the soft top protection alone!

Quick question - what kind of climate are we talking about exactly?? Like, are you dealing with insane Florida humidity or more of a dry heat situation?

Before I dive into the specs, you should check out the California Car Cover Superweave All Weather Car Cover vs the Budge B-6 Ripstop Waterproof 600 Denier Car Cover. The Superweave is highkey the best for UV protection and breathability, while the Budge is basically a fortress against sap and heavy rain but can be a bit bulky. Honestly, the E85 soft top is a magnet for mildew if the cover doesnt breathe well!!

Respectfully, I'd consider another option before dropping huge money on those brands... I've had a different experience with high-end fabrics trap moisture underneath if you aren't careful.

* Focus on any breathable brand from **Seal Skin** or even **CarCovers**
* Just get any multi-layer "platinum" style they offer

Honestly, basically all you need is a decent warranty and a snug fit. It's way more cost-effective!

Saw this earlier and wanted to weigh in. Building on the earlier suggestion, here are two more brands that actually handle the E85 dimensions properly without sagging.

  • Coverking Autobody Armor Car Cover: This one is great for outdoor storage because it uses a high-density foam layer between the outer shell and the lining. It provides a bit of a cushion against sap and small debris. The fit is digital-cut, so it stays snug on the Z4 bumpers.
  • Empire Covers Titan 5-Layer Series Car Cover: This is a heavy-duty option. The material is treated with UV inhibitors that actually reflect heat away from your soft top. Its got a fleece lining that wont scratch the clear coat, tho you gotta keep it clean. The main difference is the material weight. The Coverking Autobody Armor Car Cover is a bit lighter and easier to fold up, while the Empire Titan is a beast to handle but offers more physical protection. If you have heavy sap issues, go with the thicker material. Just remember that no matter the brand, you gotta strap it down tight so the wind dont cause it to rub against the corners. Its also worth making sure the car is 100% dry before covering it to avoid mold on the soft top.

I definitely agree with looking at the warranty and the fit above. Tbh i have been doing so much research on this lately and the price difference between brands is wild!!! It feels like you’re basically paying a huge premium just for the brand name sometimes... like do the specs really change that much between the mid-tier and high-end stuff? It seems more cost-effective to just get something with a solid return policy in case the fit isnt perfect for the Z4 body. Plus if you’re dealing with sap you might end up tossing it after a few seasons anyway right? Just something to think about tho.
