My Chevy didn't come with remote start, and those cold mornings are getting brutal. I’m looking for a reliable aftermarket system that won't mess with my electrical. Does anyone have experience with Compustar or Viper? I’m specifically wondering about plug-and-play options versus professional installs. What’s the best brand for range and durability?

For your situation, I would suggest looking at Compustar because their T-harness options are seriously AMAZING for keeping your electrical system safe! It basically makes it plug-and-play which is sooo much better than splicing. But real quick, what year is your Chevy? And do you need a phone app or just a long-range fob?? I'm still learning the tech details but I LOVE how these systems work!!

Oh man, I totally feel u on those cold mornings... literally the worst. Honestly, for a Chevy, I would suggest going with Compustar CS4900-S 2-Way Remote Start and Keyless Entry System. I've had both Viper and Compustar, and while Viper 5706V 2-Way Car Alarm and Remote Start is super popular, I found the Compustar range way more reliable in the long run.

If ur worried about the electrical, definately go for a professional install. I tried a "plug-and-play" kit once and it was a total nightmare with the bypass module. A pro shop will use a T-Harness like the iDatalink Maestro ADS-THR-GM10 which makes it super clean. It basically costs maybe $150 more for labor but it's worth it for the peace of mind. IMO, Compustar is just more durable for the price. gl! 👍

Late to the party but I have messed with a few of these setups over the years and honestly been super satisfied with the results. No complaints here, everything works well once its dialed in. Quick question though, are you planning on doing the install yourself or taking it to a shop? That makes a huge difference in which brand you should pick... some are way easier for DIY than others while others basically require a pro to look at them. Ngl, you should just search for aftermarket remote start comparison on YouTube. There is this one video thats like 15 minutes long and covers every brand mentioned here, its basically the gold standard for choosing one. Honestly just check the manufacturer sites too, they have guides that explain the range differences way better than I can. Let me know what year yours is and I can maybe dig up that link for ya.
