so i finally pulled the trigger on a maverick lobo and im picking it up in two weeks but now im stressing about the bed because it's so small compared to my old f150. i really want to keep things organized without it looking like a work truck since the lobo is more of a street performance thing. ive been looking at a couple options and i cant decide which way to go. first i was thinking about the ford bed extender because it seems handy for grocery runs or keeping a cooler from sliding around but then i saw those builtright molle panels and they look way cooler but they're definitely more expensive and maybe overkill? then there's the cheap option of just getting some ratcheting cargo bars from harbor freight or something and calling it a day.

my main requirements are:

  • keep things from sliding around during spirited driving lol
  • budget is around 400ish tops
  • has to work with a tonneau cover getting a soft roll up one
  • need it before my road trip to virginia mid-next month

im leaning towards the bed extender but i keep hearing it gets in the way when you actually need to haul something big. does anyone have the panels? are they worth the extra cash for just a daily driver? or is there something else i should be looking at for the lobo specifically...

^ This. Also, been thinking about your question. I went through the same transition when I moved away from my F150 and you might want to be careful about the lateral movement during cornering tho. That factory plastic bed liner is kinda like ice when you are hitting turns in a Lobo. Quick tips:

  • add a heavy rubber mat to increase floor friction
  • use the factory bed slots for a cheap 2x6 divider I would suggest looking at the Ford Maverick Bed Mat Protective Rubber first. In my experience, cargo still shifted even with bars until I got that rubber layer down. You might also look into the WeatherTech CargoTech Containment System blocks. They use the friction from a rubber mat to hold gear in place so you dont need permanent rails. Just make sure the mat stays clean so the blocks can actually bite and wont slide.

Huh interesting. I had no idea. The more you know I guess 🤷

Just saw this thread. Honestly, if you're hitting corners hard in the Lobo, you want stuff low and secured. Since you're worried about the budget and time, skip the overkill stuff and look at a UnderCover SwingCase Truck Bed Toolbox SC207D. It pivots out for easy access but stays locked against the side while you're driving so it wont mess with your center of gravity too much. Some easy wins for the bed:

  • Ford Maverick Cargo Net Envelope Style for groceries or small gear.
  • 2x6 lumber. Use the built-in bed slots to create a divider bay. Paint the board black to match the truck and you're set for way under your budget. Honestly works better than those cheap ratcheting bars that always seem to slip at the worst time. Should be easy to get everything delivered before your road trip too.

Congrats on the Lobo! That truck is absolutely amazing! Since you are worried about things sliding during spirited driving, you really need to prioritize cargo security so nothing hits the back of the cab or damages the bed. I really like the Ford Bed Extender Black Aluminum because it works like a dream!

  • It creates a secure cage for groceries so they dont fly around when you hit the gas.
  • Reliability is top notch since its an OEM fit and wont fail under high G-forces.
  • It works perfectly with a soft roll up cover. Honestly, the BuiltRight Industries Bedside Rack System Maverick is fantastic if you want that street performance look. It is so sturdy and way safer than using cheap ratcheting bars that can slip if you hit a bump. Bolting your gear down is the only way to be 100% sure nothing moves while you are tearing up those back roads!

Building on the earlier suggestion about keeping gear low for better handling, I'm honestly in the exact same position as you right now. I'm totally satisfied with how the Lobo drives, but transitioning from that F-150 cargo space has been a total headache that I still havent figured out.

  • been hunting for a solution for three weeks now
  • everything seems either too flimsy or way too bulky
  • hard to find parts that dont look like they belong on a work truck I've spent way too much time doing brand comparisons between the official Ford accessories and all the aftermarket stuff, but nothing seems to hit that sweet spot for a street truck. It's frustrating because I love the ride, but the bed management is a puzzle I just cant seem to solve yet.
